What are you doing to your rig - the continuing saga

With the radio up to max volume, it is finally able to overcome the road noise enough to hear what song it is playing while on the highway.

Time for change...

No, I don't do the book of faces.

I did bring this home from COFest last year. The price was very good, the design is efficient, but... :D

Made drive shafts out of old 1310 cv shafts...installed them filled the atlas and found out the front output leaks with the 1310 yoke I bought at the drive line shop it just does not seat the old 1350 no leak...going to either order new yoke or hold off since I'm not doing 1350 or 1310 as my final shafy I'm sold on tbe aa flanges they have more angle and are easier to reach the bolts on...

Bolted the trans mount up

Installed rear brake lines...bled breaks

Tightened lug nuts

Pulled the temp covers off my front windows hooked up battery started the sumbich put it in low and backed off trailer for first time in 14 months...got many months until it is ready to wheel .but fitst impressions

Hydro steering should work well with simple pressure mods and a cooler

Full hydro steers much faster than old assist and os very manageable at 40mph on the back bimpy twisty roads aroubd the house .

Lol...my drive shafts had no issue with full throttle launches in low range front low...rear low...4lo...spun the fronts spun the rears spun all 4 in tbe dirt... nice test of my welds...

The 5.0 case feels no different than the 2.72 case did...may be the jump from 39.5 to 44s but really no hugely different feel moving around

Stock 99xj master cylinder and the single piston 3/4 ton brakes hold it back just fine...can't see why all the folks think 5.0 case just "drives through the brakes"...it don't.

Gear drive case has no lag feel like chain and the 5.0 gearing does make getting tires onto my usual 4ft tall test objects effortless and controlled

Was climbing 3ft tall stuff and realized was only in 2wd front I realized this when I stopped on a steep loosrd dirt hill and could not move and realizrd only my front was spinning.

Rear springs need stiffer or front softer...front waits way too long to work ...this has been an issue since I put the re coils in back...can not judge to much no bumps limits or shocks out back yet .

It looks low now with the 116+ wheelbase 44s and only 7.5 lift...front is sagging from old springs they are 12 years old so instead of lower the rear I will put new stuff up front since it needs no lower.

Got a ton of work left...gas tank still needs moved
Front axle needs hubs refurbished and the yukon lockouts installed
Knuckles need the plates I have made welded on
Hi steer arms need made into double sheer
Gas tank noved
Bump stops shocks center limits
A bunch of welding
new seats and harness installed
Finish work on door skins and tube doors
And in about 6-8 months...lol...new paint.

I still want to get it ready enough to wheel a moderate traile...would like to get to holy cross to drive up and over cleveland rock

oh yeah, just some mild pitting there... :eyes:

Yeah, it's a good thing I was already planning on replacing everything already. The wheel bearings on the rear axle weren't pitted but they had more play in them than they should have. And they had quite a bit of water contamination in the oil. I didn't look at how many miles were on the donor but it had not had an easy 28 years of use.

But in the next couple of weeks, every single bearing, seal, and joint will be 100% new and ready for another couple of decades.

I'm going to try to use back up sensors as blind spot sensors. I'm old and blind, and have floaties in my vision constantly. We'll see if it works. :)
