dudes my MJ is leaking from the slave cylinder and lubing my clutch disc and using a lot of hydraulic fluid. update!! is this year internal? or external? mine is a 1989 4.0 engine with 5 speed trans.
time to pull the DS.t case and trans. any special tools or anything out of the ordinary i should expect? money is an issue i may try and brake clean the disc and re use it. before the contamination the clutch worked perfectly. now small intermitttent chatter on release. i have sprayed a VW bug clutch disc before that was HOSED with oil and it worked out fine.
thoughts? opinions? ideas?
Internal. The only cure is to get an external slave AX-15. The first 10 years I had my 90 I spent a ludicrous amount of money on the @#$%% clutch due to the internal slave. Had a 95 tranny with cheap clutch and stock pre-filled master cylinder/slave combo installed, and I haven't even had to add fluid for 10 years.
thanks a million Fred.i def will look into getting the external . money is an issue for now i may just have to get the same as i have and run with it. and be on the lookout for the parts i need later on.
I finally remounted the Volvo Coolant Reservoir. It was quick and dirty, but its done...for now.
Dis go here:
A quick drawing, a few hammer slaps in the vise, some mock up and marking:
A couple stringers, hook everything up, and time to call it a night:
I was concerned about clearance with the hood hinge. I stuck a piece of duct tape on the end of the reservoir. This morning, I found a witness mark on the tape. I need to move the bracket toward center.
Finally got a set of Brown Dog motor mounts installed. Although I was looking at the old ones and they look fine to me, I don't see why they needed to be replaced...
I also finally got a new transmission cooler installed. I'm not thrilled where the thermostat and wires ended up but they are mostly out of the way and I will fix them eventually.
I'm 2/3 of the way through installing a back-up camera. Added a breather catch can to hopefully reduce the amount of blow-by that comes through the intake. I hit a pothole driving yesterday, and felt that incipent death wobble we all know and love. So I checked under the front end while working on the above two projects, and, lo, there's the upper mount bolt of the TNT trackbar set-up hanging halfway out of the mount. Fixed that, but I'm thinking loctite might be in order.
Today, JD and I put new leaf spring mounts and moved the shock absorber mounts on the rear axle. Got rid of the @#$%^&* shims that seem to move no matter how tight the u-bolts. Drove very nice, and I think quieter(since the shock bushing on the bottom mount was now parallel to the mount).
JD, if you ever decide to have clean up day for your shop, let me know. I can push a broom.
It's been done before, I found a handful of threads on guys who put it in place of the A/C compressor. The interesting part is that I'm going to try to do it without removing the A/C compressor. I'm getting lots of good guidance from O-Gauge-Steamer.
Pretty cheap and easy. I didn't try to do any nifty wire routing, just ziptied it all to the rollbar. It's just there for holding up the headliner anyway.
