What are you doing to your rig - the continuing saga

After changing out my steering, all control arm bushings, ball joints, and track bar in the last month I finally got it aligned at a shop. It seems night and day like a new ride. I only drove it around the parking lot since I need to wait for a ride to pick it up, but I'm pretty pleased so far. $80 well spent!

i found out MJ's had some early skinny rear brakes on them. mine fell apart and lost my ability to stop. got it all fixed today fun fun fun i say. anyone know if i get all the A) disc brake parts(from grand cherokee) if i can just swap with my d35's drums and junk?
or B) if i get the wide drums and wide shoes and hardware i can do that upgrade?
it is nice when your brakes work !!!

oh yeah one more thing, the wagon wheel i got from the for sale section...well i found an XJ friday afternoon with 4 on them on it and i got them for 13.00 buxs each. now i have a set of 5. they are in great shape and i cant wait to get NEW tires on them! also going to cut my bed down on my MJ. recently rattle cann'd it GREEN. and been fixing a million small details on the truck.
oh i used a red LED from a ICE vehicle i worked on that needed the red and blue flashing police lights replaced due to damage as my rear 3 rd brake light. i heaved the blue one, dont want any trouble on that one. and i have a white LED from a trailer rigged as my interior light in the cab. fixed my seat bolt that was missing. soon i ll have music in my truck and an alarm as well.

Since the TFT screen has two inputs, I added a front camera. Put on my old driving lights also. I know it looks like a @!#$% snowplow, but, hey. Pics aren't great, my camera is dying.

Mounted on the stinger, between the lights.

Finally got the front locker hooked up and working. First test of the E-locker, I had no response. Finally rememberred there was a fuse in the power feed, which for some unknown reason had blown. Then I spent too much time trying to get the connector to the leads on the diff to work correctly. Next, I have to pull the rear diff cover and see what's up with the teralocker, since it didn't engage when I had it on jackstands to adjust the rear brakes.

update on my sputtering MJ
changed the cam sensor in the distributor, and made a small gain in smoothness.
fuel pump issue today stranded me. the prior owner changed it out and left a rubber hose and clamp loose and i was losing part of my fuel pressure before the fuel ever left the tank.
i have changed the plugs, cap n rotor and plug wires, did all the ground re freshing and swapped in a fuel pressure regulator. each step helped a little.just wanted to say yes the low fuel pressure did have an effect on the stuttering. and the indications were bad fuel pump but turned out to be lame install.
my MJ is now running a LOT better than back in March.

i also read that MJ and XJ have 2 different fuel pumps. is this true? almost picked up a u pull n pay fuel pump today.

Tht camera is a cool gig. I imagine a set front and back would be quite useful. What ya pick it up for?? $90??

I think it was about $60. If I did it again, I'd get a rear view mirror with the screen in it. I really didn't research it much, just logged onto Amazon and bought cheap stuff. It'd really be nice if the screen could be used to show GPS info.

I believe the 4.0 fuel pumps are the same MJ and XJ. It's the pumps for the other engines (4cyl and 2.8) that are different. The pump/sending unit assemblies are totally different, but the electric pump itself is the same. Obviously a later model XJ will be different than an '87 MJ but similar year XJ/MJ pumps should be interchangeable.

I can see for miles and miles and miles. :)

Got a new windshield, with a 97 and up seal. It's SO much quieter. :)

Yup. Highly recommend Auto Glass Repair and Replacement. The moulding cost $25 extra but is worth it in my mind.

i had a bad radiator from Advanced today, this was a new one from back in march when i got teh MJ. it has been leaking and they swapped it out no questions asked. this one was at colfax and just east of i225.
we always bag on the bad encounters, and i figure we need to speak up equally loud when they do us right .

Thanks Advanced !!

i also got my heater hooked up and a mitsubishi over flow tank installed. it is about 5 inches square and 16 inches long and i just cut a hole in the apron and used a piece of hose with a slice down the side to hold the tank in place. i also ditched my old OEM air filter box, it was just too beat up and not doing the job. i am using one of the K and N fakies but it will do for the moment and i promise to be careful around water. and my idler pulley bearing committed suicide yesterday, and i got it fixed up all right now. seems like a LOT of small breakages coming and n going but i am so far holding my own with it.

Full frame stiffeners. Rosette welds get old. That is all.

this is where leathers come in handy....i finally finished my stiffeners on the white jeep today...no burns
