What are you doing to your rig - the continuing saga

Its pretty basic and strong. I like it. Only think that was a pain was getting the gas tank out of the way to get the rest of the bolts in. I could be convinced to take it off if someone really wants to take a closer look at the parts.

I was seriously considering making my own version of a tailbone after that sold because i got a nice 97+ bumper and endcaps for my 96. After really thinking about it i decided it would be easier to just make a whole new rear bumper that somewhat matched the shape of the stock one and just trim the endcaps to fit. Then i could just add a tire swingout or swingdown later.

It would be easier to just make a bumper. There are alot of little parts to make this thing. Now I see why they dont make them anymore. Since I dont have the welding skills i couldnt pass up on the deal.

Had to order new hid kit. Went with a better kit then what i had. Also decided to get some autopal housings. Just gotta wait for it all to get here. Then maybe go get an alignment so see if that helps with the death wobble. Who knows where does an alignment with aftermarket steering?

I think Bear Frame and Axle closed it's doors a few years ago. :tear:

Chain alignment shops are kinda unreliable.

I had been going to the Midas near me. The manager at the time was into XJ's and one of his techs had one as well, both lifted/modified.

Went there to get the '97's alignment checked (simply wanted to know the caster angle currently and if it needed adjusted) and the new manager said "absolutely not - we won't work on modified/altered vehicles."

DO NOT GO TO ALIGNMENT MASTERS!!!

I took my Subaru into them a couple years ago to get a custom alignment and some camber bolts put in. They had no idea what they were doing. It's a very long story, but they installed the camber bolts completely wrong (and very unsafely too), ruining them. The owner is a total douche.

How do you install a camber bolt wrong? You're talking about where the knuckle bolts to the strut right? There really isn't a way to mess that up. Or are you talking about a camber plate up top where the strut mounts to the chassis?

That would be super frustrating! Especially if you had a lifetime deal like Firestone has.

Yeah, you would think it would be tough to screw up. The camber bolts are eccentric and they have a lobe on them. There is a special alignment washer on the other side that kind of locks in the lobe. They didn't know how to get the washer in correctly, so they just ground the lobe off. Like I said, it's a really long story and not worth trying to recap it all here. The lesson learned is don't go to alignment masters and tell everyone I can not to go there.

I HATE alignment places. I have had nothing but bad luck with them. I do the Jeep myself because it's simple. The Subaru only goes to Super Rupair in Boulder now.

Pics of the Tailbone. Still need to figure out a license plate light.
