So I bit the bullet and polished the dana 30.

I will just let a few pictures explain. Plus I just want to show off.:jester:

Finished Turdy

Ride hieght. Steering is not installed because I need to build a new link still.

New panhard mount to accomodate the stretched wheelbase and to optimize the longest possible panhard. BTW, its 40.5" long. Thats 5.5" longer than my drag link!!

This is the new wheelbase and approach angle. I also tucked the front bumper in 4"s from where it used to be.

Overall... I have spent a ton of time and money just "putting a new front end" in. I just needed to replace a bent housing!

And my wife says that I get carried away when I work on things!!! By the way, is the pitman arm on your steering box actually cut and welded back together? Nice truss truss work, though. On second look, the pitman arm is not cut, it is just plate re-enforced, right?

Yep just picked up alloys for my junk gonna get a truss and new lower control arm protection and run 33s maybe 35s...

So, how much money total do you have into that axle?

Around 1700 for what you see on that housing. Most everything has been done over 3 years and 3 different housings. Thats with joints, materials, etc to the best I can figure. My last 2 biggest chunks of money was on the knuckle and alloy shafts. I just have a butt load of time in all of it.

I hope this one lasts a few years.

I am wondering if you plan to build some long arms too?

Why? My arms are at 25" now. I am thinking about loosing the drop brackets, I just need to build new frame mounts for the 3link. The drop brackets work ok for now. I have lots of time still. I think they will be rock anchors until I do a better midarm 3link. I do NOT want long arms.

Good Lord. How many hundreds of pounds does that axle weigh?

I dont know actually. I will be doing a total wieght on the heep after I finish up stuff. I was 3300 lbs prior to RockinXJ Jamboree. I am losing more body and stuff, so I hope to stay about the same or less. Axle wieght doesnt bother me all to much. I did this in hopes to keep housing flex down and not break r&p's.

Looks good Scrappy ... I appreciate all you guys working with the D30. A lot of folks run that axle (me included) and enjoy seeing the ideas you all come up with.

Since we are always trying to balance pinion angle and caster, did you rotate the axletubes in the housing before you braced it to increase caster while retaining an acceptable pinion angle?

I love the flames on the truss!

Love the crack in the frame....is that from relocating the track bar mount or from wheeling? I wish I had the time to stretch my wheelbase. It looks good, keep it up.

I totally understand the way too much money and time thing....it'll pay off.

That crack happened last trip. I didnt repair it befor i did the mount because the steering box was still installed. After I got the box out, I welded the seam and the crack. I was going to plate it, but decided to let it be.

That reminds me. The trackbar mount is not just welded to the frame. I plated that section pretty well before building the mount. I dont want this one coming off.

Thanks for the props! I hope its all worth it in the end.

"You ain't got a thing without that bling"

but seriously, looks good

You and troy stegall must get along.

You got a super 30 kit in there?

Have jack at ctm make you some 300m 30 spline d30 shafts and then you'll be bulletproof..........to a certain extent.

I like the 100% parellel track bar.

Props to a guy who makes a 30 work.

how long did you stretch the wheelbase? how far did you move the track bar mount forward? I saw you moved your coil buckets up as well, was that planned to gain height or just a byproduct?
