Saturday Jan 6th, we have 2 xj's going to play around and explore in Wharton State Forest. We both have lockers and winches, but we won't be looking for trouble. Just a nice, fun, day out on the trails. Maybe even some snow by then. All are welcome, give us a call (John and Aimee 917-750-2605) or post up here, thanks

I'd actually be interested in this. I'm open front/rear and don't have a winch.. though I do have a winch bumper, front/rear recovery points, etc. 5.5" lift, 33's, NV3550, D44 rear, all that good stuff.

Did you want it to be XJ only? I have a good amount XJ friends which I can extend an invite out to if you want. Do you two have CB's as well?

I'd love to, but I will be taking the XJ to reinspection next weekend - they flunked me for the duct tape covering the rust hole in my door. Seems they don't consider that a permanent fix (go figure).

Fortunately, the weather's going to be nice tomorrow, so I'll get that other door I got from Ken over the summer mounted up.

So you got the winch installed now, eh? Cool. My tow hook brackets are still feeling the pain from August...

I might be able to make it, but I won't know until Thursday or Friday..

Do you have specific trails in mind?

Full recovery and locked.

Hi,

I recently picked up a 92 XJ (a month ago). Completely stock 4.0/AW4 combo.

I was thinking of heading down to Wharton (I'm in Monmouth County) to check out some trails. Is there anything good for a stock XJ down there? Also, is it legal to wheel there?

If there are any stock/near stock XJs that want to get together as a sub-group of this meet or another time please post up or pm me.

Thanks,
Jerry

most of the trails are stock-capable (most are 2wd fire roads), depending on the time of the year (water levels). some of the mud holes have very deep ruts, which are covered in water making them hard to spot before you're stuck. :)

as long as you stay on the trails, you're legal, although most of the sand playpits are questionable. some are posted off-limits, but others aren't.

if you go on your own, be in a group of 3 vehicles or more, and have adequate tow points front and rear. also, good tow straps.

just watch out for deer hunters on some of the trails,,there where some out last week

My buddy has a CB, I guess this is a good time to get a set-up for myself. thanks for reminding me of that.

All are welcome, not matter what you drive.

I have this setup going:

Except I have the 520 Uniden with a PA speaker :-D

One guy from work and his bro may be interested. One in a YJ the other in a Toyota pickup. They've come on two Pines runs so far and been fine. I'll throw out the invite to my friend and her long arm 12"? lifted Toyota on 37's, locked front/rear, winch, Warn bumpers, etc... it's insane! lol

Where were you planning to meet and when? I am planning on going to my shore house up in Brick afterwards, so I wasn't too sure on how long we wanted to be out. Weather is looking to be mid 50's... NICE!

It really depends on the trails we go on. Most of the Pines are fine for stock rigs.. just make sure you have front/rear tow points. A CB would be great as well!

Most of the trails are pretty open and you most likely won't have any damage due to trees/branches. However, if we go on the smaller trails, you will most likely receive some custom pin striping....

Most of the big "pits" have bypasses. So if you don't feel like submerging your rig, you can always go around.

Let me link you to some albums from the last few times I've gone:

All are invited, BUT as always when going into Wharton, water can be a factor. Depending on the trails picked AND THE MOTLEY CREW of trucks you are going out with, a stock truck can get by. However, it is easy to pick the wrong lines and get your feet wet. (which we have been TRYING to avoid). I am not driving a huge mud truck, and am not into pressuring anybody into getting in too deep. We will have full recovery equipment if need be. Some people may point, take pictures, and laugh before they pull others out, but that is why we are going anyway.

I want to meet up at the Ranger Station on 206 about 9am.

As for how long we will be in the woods, it all depends on where the day takes us. I'm easy as far as scheduling.

Sounds perfect. You got my PM/cell # correct? Are you planning to have a CB at that time or negative? Ranger Station is a great meeting place. I don't mind heading out early if we randomly intersect with a paved road. I was going to borrow my mothers GPS, but it'll get bounced around more than I'd like in my Heep.

Yes, I got your number, I'll dig up my cell phone tonight and give you a ring. I need to do some work on the truck on friday. If all goes well early, then I will try to get a CB in there.

Sounds good. If I don't answer, feel free to leave my a VM. Easiest way to contact me is either: [email protected] or [email protected].

Good luck with what you're doing on the rig!

well it custom pin stripes are not for me .. my jeep is black... but anyway im gonna be working till 1pm so i guess ill have to go another time with everyone.. kinda sucks i just bought a cb too.. thanks for the links of pics!! looks like a good time

If there's still room, I'd like to join the fun too! Currently having a troublesome electrical problem that I hope I can iron out before Saturday. I'll have to keep you posted.

Not a problem. Typically you do run into smaller trails that can scratch your paint.

Sure thing for the photos. It's funny, that was 1 year ago yesterday. Good times!

I'm not the one organizing it, but I think it's open to however many people show up. If you've been on trail rides before, there's a lot of "I'll be there" but not a lot of "I'm here!" It varies though. The last Pines rides I was on "Whatevah" organized it and somehow we had about 16 rigs show!! That's a little much IMO unless everyone knows the trails real well and aren't getting stuck :)

I'm still trying to place faces with names and rigs. I went on the August(?) trail ride to the Pines with Whatevah. (96 green ZJ)
