Weight Training and Supplements

I know steroids are a long way from protein shakes/creatine/amino acids... But the long term effect of that stuff is what people don't realize. Re-read the last part before I posted the pics... adjust diet + work out more...Just read this taken from
http://www.creatine-monohydrate.org/creatine-side-effects.htm

  • Some of the persons claim that creatine users are susceptible to cramps, muscle spasms, and some may even be prone to pulled muscles.
  • Persons taking creatine may also show allergic reactions like Itching or hives.
  • Sometimes, there may be swelling in your face or hands,
  • Some persons taking creatine said that they had some tingling sensation in their throat.
  • Consumption of creatine may cause sometimes cause Diarrhea or stomach problems.
  • You may sometimes experience trouble in breathing.
  • Creatine in some rare cases may also cause kidney stones.
Other Side Effects of Creatine may be:

  • You may experience chest tightness.
  • You may experience a weight gain. But, that from my point of view is not a bad effect it is a good effect as all weight lifters love to have more and more mass.
  • Water Retention.
  • You may notice some gas problems and bloating.
  • Heat Intolerance.
It would suck to have gas/bloating on a hot date. Just personal preference is all. You can either go natural and lower your risk of some kind of long term problem that may not be present now or documented. Or take supplements for quicker results and increase your risk. Whether people say it's good or bad, you have the final say. Doctors say it's bad to smoke, but 75% of the doctors where I work smoke... along with about 85% of the nursing staff. Go figure... I'm not a doctor. I just try to avoid things that can cause problems I can easily avoid :spin1:

Sounds like we are on the same page for the most part...I dont like the bloating that I get from creatine mono So I "Risk" taking the Creatine Ethyl Ester instead less side effects etc... But comes with FDA warnings and less time in the market for research, many ppl would think I should not but I could be killing myself eating mcDonalds everyday instead.. I think it helps me. It is what it is..

Ive been taking Cellmass by BSN for the past couple days, it says it has that Creatine Ethyl Ester Malate in it, it claims "No loading, no cycling, no hard to swallow tablets, no sugar, no stomach bloat, no water retention, no up and down old school creatine weight gain. " http://www.bodybuilding.com/store/bsn/cell.html
I wasnt sure if getting something along these lines was better than something else but in the end im not sure?

The cellmass i got from gnc with a buy one get one half off plus the 20% off for the first of the month so it came to $35 or something for 40 servings and it tastes great. I try to think of it as a nice drink for under a buck.

WHile we're on the topic, any suggestions on good shoulder exercises, mine sometimes sound like a bowl of Rice Crispies. I have been doing "military presses" (about 75-95 lbs, can't remember for sure), shrugs and different dumb bell raises.

Look around on www.bodybuilding.com , they have a few exercises on the website, I havent looked through them yet but theres bound to be some for you. I do the military press, shrugs, etc too so I think its pretty set. Maybe try a lat pull down as well.

You can spend and spend on suppliments. What you need is protine in your blood stream 24/7 and lots of naps and sleep. You only grow when you sleep. You need protine to grow so eat it 6 to 10 times a day. You can only break down about 25 grams of protine at a time so a mega shake is a little wastfull. Think small and often. Every other suppliment except a vitimin mineral package is a luxury item. The the pro hormone stuff will ruin your nads and sex drive. This is what happens: you take suppliments like 1AD to increase your hormones or testostorone so your body shuts your nuts down because it sees too much.
When your nuts are shut down they are dying. They will bounce back some but never fully.(not good). If you are going to shut you nuts down don't waste it on small amounts of over the counter stuff. Buy like 150 dollers worth of a few kinds of pro hormones and eat them like candy for 5 weeks and get off of them to let your nuts turn back on. Lift like hell for 5 weeks and eat and sleep and you will see gains. This is why steroids are better than over the counter stuff. They both kill your nads but the real stuff will make you grow like crazy. Get on it but then get and stay off it. Big arms or big manhood you can't have both with some supliments. I went from 190# to 210 in 5 weeks on one cycle of winstrall while also eating over the counter pro hormones. You know how you somtimes growl when you lift? when I was useing the needles it sounded like a freakin grizzly bear was rattling the house. I could upright a 16 foot Hobie Cat with one hand on the boat and my girlfreind in the other, over and over. That sh-t makes you one bad mofo period. After the last needle went in my leg I said thats it never again. Now I'm back to my scrawny 178 lb self. You will couse way too much liver and kidney damage if you take Steroids orally so if you decide to jump out there grow some balls and jab the needle.

I was thinking supplements more along the lines of a simple protein shake (mine are 20grams/serving) and creatine (which im a little weary of). Id never use anything more than that like you were speaking of, mainly because of its detrimental side effects. I think I've got it down pretty well now to the 4-5 smaller meals a day and trying to keep up with going to the gym. Im a little over 190lbs with just a little layer of fat so hopefully by summer things will be good.

Glutamine is a great supplement. It's the most abundant amino acid in your body. Mix a half teaspoon with water on an empty stomic. Creatine makes you gain water weight so you need to drink a lot of water if you are on it. It works for me but not everbody likes it. Try to cycle on it when you start to feel like you arn't getting stronger or you are stuck on a plateau. It seems to give results when you first start back on it so save it for when you are in a slump or plateau and drink an extra gallon of water a day with it. If you are trying too lose weight drop the creatine but you can't really grow big and loose weight at the same time. The pros will gain like 60 lbs when training and then lean out before competitions. In other words they eat to grow but they gain fat when they grow. Suppliments should be in this priority:
Multi vitimine mineral suppliments Most important!
Good food with extra meat protien
Glutimine and protine shake snacks
Everthing else is a luxury item.
Not to say the luxuries don't have merits but they are not critical. I'm worthless without Glucosimine sulfate for joints and connective tissue.
One more thing about creatine and that is it is natually accuring in RARE red meat so consider your consumpion of that with your suplimentation of creatine.

Extreme for the before work out and a protein shake muslemilk and a good helping of tuna. The main thing that will help you gain mass is sleep. That is the only time that your body changes. Also if you have been at it hard for 6 weeks or more, completly stop working out for about 2-3 weeks. Then go back in and put in a hirg rep low weight day. Then go out and push harder than you have for about 4 weeks then stop for a week and follow that pattern. Guarentee you will notice a big change and never really get in a rut. What is your BMI and your squat max and chest press max at now?

x2 on the take a week or so off after a hard 6 weeks

Sounds like what you are taking isn't bad. CellMass kicks ass for recovery and it has L-glutamine in it. One thing I would recomend is Universal Animal pack. Its just a multivitamin pack, I've been using it for the last month and it helps with recovery a little. As for protien I use optimum 100% whey. When I replace a meal with a protien shake I add fruit and peanut butter to the shake to make it an actual meal. I agree with everyone else hear a decent diet is key to making gains. I was using protien for a few months and that s pretty much all I was eating and wasn't getting a ton out of it. It wasn''t until I started eating semi normal(healthy but actually eating food) that I made some decent gains. Also once a month take a week off from lifting (and suppliments) and just do cardio if you must workout. This helps me a lot I go back to the gym after that week feeling a little guilty I haven't lifted but end up being fully recovered and have that extra mental edge from the "guilt" and get the most intense workouts.

i recomend the nublend protein pretty decent price and low calories and also if your wanting to build lean muscle buy the methyl DX-3 pills they are around 40 dollars

I am going to take off at the end of next week, I am getting the Vasectomy finaly done NO KIDS FOR ME!!! Yeah!!

Currently I am in the gym about 10 hours a week
5 days lifting and 5 days cardio
I do a 4 day split on my workouts and it lets me do the same body part 2 times in a week every 4 weeks because of the 5th day and gives me a natural rotation to my workouts.

I do wieghts at 6am and then at 12:30 I do abs and 45 mins of hard cardio.

I take the weekends off..
I am trying to drop to around 9-10% body fat for summer, we will see if I can make it. I am sitting at about 13% now

I've been basing my workouts around my work schedual (sp?), usually I'll go in after work since, in my twisted mind atleast, work could be a form of cardio (I work a full time retail job with my only sit down time being lunch and bathroom breaks.) I've been mainly taking weekends off because the club isn't open late enough or early enough to be able to go before or after work on weekends or if I work late on friday nights.

Ive been doing this here and there trying various proteins as well as all the free samples my friend has been getting and was wondering if any of you have had good/bad experience with any particular ones or what have you found to work best. I've tried everything from muscle milk to generic gnc protein and a couple in between and have seen various results. Just recently though I've started taking muscletech protein with the mega mens vitamin as well as cellmass which is a creatine by BSN. Seems like a good combo and I try not to look at it as far as $1 a shake (about what it comes out to), I just think of it as a healthy alternative thats like a milkshake I could just buy at mickey D's. In any case, anyone have any recommendations as to what works and what to stay away from?

All Muscletech products are overpriced. Do you want a weightgainer or just protein. FOr Protein I would go with ON Whey. They have a large selection of flavors, and are reasonably priced. As far as weight gainers go I like ProLab N-Large2, 52g protein, 80+ carbs, and 580 calorie per serving, the chocolatre is the best. Buy Prolabs "Creapure" createin which is flavorless and mix it with your shake. If you want to go a step further pick up some L-Glutimine to help aide in faster muscle recovery. Stay away from higher sugar content, do not consume High Fructose Corn Syrup. If you have any other questions feel free to PM me.
