Warn Transfer case skid

Root,

Your a real life saver, thanks SO much for your help! I can't believe I didn't think of calling them myself on SATURDAY, or SUNDAY or even yesterday on THE FOURTH OF JULY!

Thanks man,

I will give Dirk a call today (its TUESDAY, REGULAR BUSINESS DAY) just like I said I would in the post. But gotta wait till 8 his time. Heck, I might even just call warn direct thanks to you!

Man, I gotta go wheelin.

Well, I just wanted to make sure you had a way to escape the autistic episode you seemed to be having.

Hey....sorry to dig this thread up again but I found an answer for you all...I e-mailed Warn,
"Does your Transfer case skid plate for a jeep cherokee work with a 242 transfer case which hangs lower than the 231? Thanks"

Reply : Sorry for the delayed response, I wanted to make sure I got you the correct answer. The XJ skid plate that we offer will work with 242 transfer case. Attached are the installation instructions. If you have a lift and the crossmember has been dropped down at all, it may require additional spacing or modification to the plate to make it work."

There's your answer...too bad I went and bought a used Skid Row one for $75 shipped...

I wouldn't mind a look at the instructions...

Send a copy to parts at moose dot ca?

T!

The Warn looks nice. But I know some do not want to here it but I have Rusty's for the 242. It may hang a little lower than it needs to with a dropped t-case but i've beat the hell out of it with out it even flinching. Solid and Beefy!

Mine should be here soon, and when it does I will post pics and info of fitting my 242. Went to Badlands last weekend, almost busted my TC twice in the rock quarry.

digging up an old thread but i just wanted to post pics of the warn skid with the 242...

This is the gap between the fram rail and the flange on the skid that needs to be filled with one of the spacers. I assume that this gap wouldnt be there with a 231 tcase

the black ones are the spacers they include to install on a lowered crossmember.

the gap is still there with the 231. i ended up having to use all three of the spacer plates, but that's partly due to my RE LCA drop bracket/brace.

How that thing holding up? I might be interested in getting one myself if it seems to be doing the job.

This old thread dig up is perfect timing for me. I've been looking at skid plates all morning...and totally forgot about Warn. If this unit does well, it may be the one I'll get, because Quadratec has it listed for $80!

Mine seems pretty stout. I would not recommend it for hardcore rock slams. I run trails, with some rocks and trees and ledges. But I am not a competition rockcrawler.

I have this on my 96 country with a 231 and I don't remember there being a gap, and I didn't use any spacers. I may have just pushed the mounting flange flush with a jack and bolted it on though?? If there was a gap, it was small.

Anyways, I'd recommend this skid for sure. It's cheap, and it doesn't cut ground clearnace. It mounts solid and comes with extra self tappers that you can use for other stuff!!

I used to have skidrow's Tcase skid but since I don't have a tcase drop, and it is made to work with one, I felt it hung down too low. I could see it from far away and I used to hit it more than I hit the warn one. Not that it ever bent, it was solid, just hung down. The warn one has a spacer for using a tcase drop, so they got all bases covered. I think that I got mine for ~91 bux shipped to MA.

alright, i posted before but the forums been screwy and i dont know where the responses went.

The Skid is great, and you cant beat the price. It will work with the 242 but because of the larger profile of the 242 you need to use a spacer between the frame rail and mounting flange on the skid plate. check out www.cseoffroad.com its the lowest price on it and Gene is offering free shipping for now.

I just received my skid from CSE offroad. Looks pretty beefy. I will install it this weekend and let the verdict be known.
I ust wanted to give another plug for cseoffroad. I ordered on 2-14 (jeeps valentine's day gift) and received it today, 2-16. $77 and free shipping.

This is how it ends up looking when its mounted underneath a NV242
For the 231, its the same except the spacer between the frame rail and the mounting flange on the skid is absent.

You can see in that photo underneath the crossmember is a tiny square hole, A carraige bolt is included with the mounting hardware and this is the location for it, it runs vertically up through the xmember.

I just got mine installed. I would say that the actual install took me about 2 hours. Of course, some jerk had welded my factory one on, so it took me about 6, since I had to grind out welds and monkey the factory one off.
Anyway, I have the 231, the kit comes with some plate spacers, I used one of those on the frame mount. I'l post some pics tomorrow, I'm freakin tired after that install.
THe only thing I can recommend is to make sure you have an 11/32 drill bit to drill the holes for the self tappers. I also used a bottle jack to press the ones in the fram rail into the holes, sure made starting them easier.
