Greetings,

I want to add an overhead console to my 2001 Jeep Cherokee 60th Aniversary Edition.

The console I can get one from is a 1998 Cherokee Limited.

All I have under my headliner are 3 wires (3 pin plug) going to the center overhead lamps (courtesy lamps?), 9 wires (skinny 12 pin plug) going to the remote keyless entry circuit board (stock), and a couple single(?) wires going to each sunvisor mirror vanity lamp. The 2 wires for the ambient temperature sensor routes from behind the bumper to probably the firewall (not sure if it stops there).

Can I get the overhead console (compass, trip computer, temperature) fully operating with my existing wires?

Describe the hassle (if any) if I don't get the harness (just the console) from the 1998 cherokee?

CAN ANYONE TELL ME IF THE OVERHEAD CONSOLE AND THE REMOTE KEYLESS ENTRY CIRCUIT BOARD SHARE THE SAME WIRES?

Could someone please share the wisdom?

This would be a nice accessory to my Jeep.

I would appreciate it.

Thanks
Gary

You'll need the wiring harness that goes with whatever console you get. You have to route it through the headliner and down the pillar. It's easiest if you get the console from a jeep of the same year but not absolutely necessary. You'll need to reuse your board for your remote entry.

Use the search function, there are a ton of threads on this topic. I put one in mine last fall.

Here is the thread that I started, but I had already done a bunch of research ahead of time which I suggest you do too.

Hi.

I installed an overhead console in my 97+ XJ Sport last year and all is working perfect. Reccomended !!!

What you need except for console:
Wire hardness
Bracket witch hold the rear end of console to the roof
Ambient temp. censor(www.teamcherokee.com have this)

Removing:
Remove the top cover over dash
Remove the right panel in front of the fuse terminal(all)
Remove the panel witch goes up from dash to roof(by the window)
Pull down the roof liner(careful!)
Disconnect wire harness from existing lamp and pull out.

Installation
Opposite direction of removing

You need to cut an opening in the liner for the rear console bracket lipps.
Connector for wire harness is already prepared and is located by the fuse terminal
Ambient temp. sencor connector is prepared and is located close to the right head lamp(take off the front grille and you will find it easily.

I have some installation pictures but not telling to much
