Volvo control arm. NEED HELP!!

1999 volvo S80. Got the control arm out fine but when I went toput it back in nothing I can do can make it go. Does the tierod have to come off? Swaybar?

TIE ROD? SWAY BAR?

IM SO CONFUSED! Someone had told me it would come right out and go right back in, no need to disconnect anything. THANKS IN ADVANCE! :worship:

Jack it up by the frame and let the front suspension hang. It should go right on.

Ive tried letting it hang and it wouldnt go on. Thanks for the link SKIM. Any more Ideas?

I would start by taking off the sway bar. If that doesn't help, try the TRE.

Its only a few bolts to remove those parts for the time being.

I can get it up high enough but it shifted forward when I took the control arm out. The people on the Volvo forums Ive posted on dont help. Thanks
PS I think that the tie rod might be holding it forward

Also try loosening up the bolts that hold on the strut itself, at the top. That might help you get enough movement to get it back together.

Im not really firmiliar with Volvo's, but yes, they should be under the hood. 3, or 4 bolts/nuts. Take a pic of under the hood and post it up if you cant find them.

Did removing the sway bar and/or tie rod help any?

Did you double check to make sure that the half-shaft did pop out inside the boot from the picture it looks like it did, that would keep things from going back together.

I havnt gotten the tie rod off. How would it come off after I get the bolt undone. Sorry this thing scares me its not quite as easy as my jeep.

It would come out the same way the tie rod end would on your Jeep. Hit around the TRE, on the 'knuckle' itself. If not, tap on the tie rod, not the bolt.

Yes I kind of can push it towards the fenderwell

To get the boot clip off, pry apart where it has been pinched with a screwdriver. You will more and likley need a new one. Also there is a tool to crimp those.

Have you tried the other suggestions? Did they work? Might be easier to do some of them, before tearing into a halfshaft.

I agree I wouldnt touch the half shaft in less you trully have to.
