My wife and I will be in Cleveland Aug 5-9 for mostly work, but we'll have a full day of free time....so what is there to do for fun?? I've looked online a little but I though I'd seek some advise of fun things to do from some locals or someone whos been there maybe.

Anyway, thanks!

Hmm. That's not bad. I was going to say...RUN!! Run like the wind! Cleveland?! Sheesh. But..the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame...that might be worth a look.

Now that the Ramones are in - hell yeah.

I might even put aside my prejudices towards Ohio to visit it one day - last time I was there, it was to get from Indiana to Pennsylvania on I-80. Probably the dullest 3-hour drive of my life punctuated only by stopping at the World's Worst Truck Stop.

I was in Cleveland in June.

Contrary to what you have heard in muisc, Cleveland does not rock.

Cuyahoga Valley National Park has some great scenery and portions of the historic old canal system. http://www.nps.gov/cuva/
Other than that we went to the Rock N Roll Hall of Fame. It was Mehhh back 15 years ago. I truly hope it's gotten better. Thee are some other "attractions" new the Hall that could help you burn a day away....

I actually fell asleep for a solid minute driving on the Ohio turnpike once......woke up and was still driving down the flat, straight road....:speepin:

don't plan on an all day thing at the ock hall.
You'll be through it in 2 hours, tops.
there's a hard rock cafe in tower city.
you could probably get Indian's tickets, since they can't fill the jake.

avoid the warehouse district, lot's of bad stuff going on over there lately. a couple of shootings in the past month.

the flat's are alright if you don't mind the mid 20's frat boys getting drunk.

the playhouse square is pretty cool if you're into theatre/art crap.

and there's always the standard things you've got in any major city, zoos, art musuems.
I highly recommend the Brasa Grill. More meat than you've ever seen, but it's kinda pricey, about $30 a plate. Expect $50 a person after drinks.

There are some pretty good amusment parks in Ohio, one is called Kings island and I don't recall the other one but I have heard it is awesome. Last time I was at Kings Island it was also very good but that was probably 12 years ago. I am going to be in Troy Ohio the 9th through the 16th for a family reunion but I am not going anywhere near Cleveland.

Kings Island is in Cincinnati. Same state, but quite a drive from Cleveland. :)

True but it is a pretty small state!! I live in Oregon and have only been to Ohio a handful of times when I was young. I found out that other amusment park is called Cedar Point and it is located in Sandusky Ohio which is only about 50 miles away from Cleveland. I am going there for sure.

cedar point is indeed a very nice park, one of the best rollercoaster parks in the country.

it's expensive though.
They're gonna hit you 10 bucks to park
8 bucks for the causeway fee
and 45+ a person for admittance.

and some fries will set you back 5 bucks, take a cooler and eat in the picnic area.

there's also a couple water parks, most are in warren country, right next to kings island, but geauga lake isn't terribly far from Cleveland, and is a good time.

if your wife is into the Amish country thing that's right by me.
come straight down 71 for an hour, turn east on 250 and you'll be right in the middle of amish land. Don't hit the drunk ones in the buggies.

I went to the Hard Rock in tower city... then decided why would I pay to go to the rock and roll hall of fame... its pretty much the same kinda crap on the walls!

yeah, the rock hall has never lived up to its potential/hype.

it's basically been a boat anchor that the city sinks money into.

Yeah. I flew into Cleveland in June because I had to get to a funeral in Pittsburgh. Due to the US Open, I couldn't get a hotel room, rental car, or flight there!

Flew to Cleveland, stayed a night, drove to pittsburgh, stayed with family.

That turnpike is really nice though, much better than the roads in Ca!

yeah 80-90 is pretty well maintained, and traffic moves pretty well. once you get into PA tho 80 is a cop zone and they like to hide in the damn hills, they got me more than once lol...
