A mag mount will get knocked off by branches. Just my $0.02.
You can mount to the roof rack if you have one, or use a lip mount to mount to the hood or tailgate.
They make NMO-size rubber plugs for repairing roofs.
There are other mounts with smaller holes.
There's also thru-glass mounts.
