Ford is perfect to round out a Comanche? But you put a Willy's style bed on your Comanche? Did I miss something here? :D

Between the ignition and fuel injection on the early models....they were almost Ford specific... :)
The Ford front axle was easier to install than the stock Jeep axle is...

The Willy's bed? Cause....a Ford bed would have looked funny.

The Comanche styling is ALL Jeep , as I discovered in putting that stepside on it. It looks exactly like it's older, bigger brother.

I am LMAO at some of the responses in this thread...This place is NEVER dull and wanting for humor. :)

Ford axles under a Comanche/Cherokee? ...I think I invented that one somewhere in 1977.

You're truely an amazing man DĩllHole.

You invented that? I didn't even know MJ/XJ's were produced in 1977

Sorry for not clarifying, or catching my typing errors....... "that" referring more to a Jeep/Ford hybrid... I mated a set of Ford Dana/ nine inch diffs under a 1980 CJ in or about 1987 or 1988.

I hung my first set of Ford variants under the XJ format in late 1999.

So... You're saying you invented the Jeep/Ford hybrid?
If so, you would have to have done it much earlier than '87-'88.
Or am I missing something?

I'm sure that somewhere out there, someone has mated Ford axles under a Jeep much earlier than I....

The comment was a generalization.....not an absolute. I think we're just on different wave lengths.

All that the comment was intended to mean....is that before the current "rash" of Dana 44 and 9" Ford axles being installed under a new XJ nearly everyday.... I did it back in 1999 without anyone to consort with. It was an uncommon task back then.

I do not want to exclude that farmer back in 1985 that did it because he had all the pieces.....

She'll jack up the cost of that Jeep by a factor of three. Mine always does. If I get to spend $100, she get's to spend $300. Oh crap, that's a factor of four.

RR3

100 x 3 = 300

It's a factor of three :)

Eagle.... I saved a pristine Comanche bed by totally removing it from the vehicle and cutting it, and this is the thanks I get??? My current machine could be returned to stock rather easily with a couple of fenders, a header panel, and stock running gear (which incidentally I currently have three sets of)

I know, I know.

One of the reasons my "fleet" has become a fleet is that I get too attached to them. I put one up for sale, a bunch of yahoos parade through looking at it and offering about half what it's worth (or less), and I look at them and just know that with a month of their buying it, they will either destroy it with redneck mods or just outright crash it. So I take it off the market.

Why do I care? Damned if I know. I guess I've just been a collector/restorer (or "refurbisher" might be more accurate, because I rarely do 100% restorations) for too long. I feel about MJs the way I feel about original 2-seat AMXs -- there were so few made that they should not be cut up in any way that can't be returned to original condition, and they should not be used as hard-core trail machines and bashed into oblivion just for the "fun" of it. Which is why, Amigo, I salute you for preserving the box from yours.

Restomod man :D That's a word from the Mustang crowd. :)

MY Renix distributor says Lucas

not a mention of Ford anywhere.
Might be better with Ford than Lucas, though.
Fred
The real problem is all the GM crap in the XJ's. Damn steering column just died today. :)

The real problem is with cheap GM crap that when installed on a Jeep, suddenly fetches "Jeep" pricing.

Basically, since the XJ platform wasn't invented till 1984, I'd have to say "Jeep" hybrid. I placed a set of Ford axles under a 1982 Scrambler back in the day.
The first XJ which I placed these axles under was in 1999. Even then, I hadn't hooked up with anyone who had done it at that time, but I'm not going to say that someone hadn't done it at that time. I was not able to consort with them on all the particulars, however.

So, what was it? An '80 CJ or an '82 Scrambler?
Oh Dean, why lie?
