US Olympians forced to remove "support the Troops sticker

If you look at it like that, every country's flag is a political symbol and should be removed. Supporting the troops isn't political propaganda, it's giving moral support to people who are away from their families doing their jobs. Just my opinion.

Except every country uses their flag in the Olympics to identify what country they are from. It has been that way forever.

I have to agree with this one. You will not find a stronger supporter of the troops than me but rules are rules.

off topic, but he was the goalie for 2 years while i was at UMass Amherst. he was damn good then too...

on topic, the olympics have been one of the few things that are rarely affected by worldwide political relationships and remain to be about athleticism, with the exception of during world war II. i too believe that the troops should be supported, but there is an appropriate venue for advertising that.

The olympics have to remain nonpolitical. It's the reason Jesse Owens could race in front of Hitler without persecution.

While I'm sure the troops appreciate the sentiment (because I do), if the Olympic committee afforded everyone the opportunity to voice their political opinion, the olympics would become a haven for every special interest group in the world.

Supporting our military is the right thing to do, but there are a lot of countries in the world that don't agree with what our troops are doing right now. There's no place in the olympics for that kind of backlash or media.

Times three.

(ewwwww I agree with Ryan!)

with the exception of during world war II.

and 1972, Palestinine Liberation Organization murdering Isreali atheletes in Munich.
and 1980, President Jimmy Carter as a protest for the Soviet invasion of Afghanistan bans the US team from participating in the Olympics held in Moscow.
and in 1984, the Soviets in a tit for tat move, do not participate in the Olympics held in Los Angeles.

I agree the Olympics should NOT be political stages. On the drive into work this morning the radio commentator mentioned that the Men's Figure Skating competion was akin to the competion during the Cold War era.

If they allowed us to have Support the Troops, then they'd have to let Iran have Death to Infidels.

:D

I agree politics has no place in the Olympic Games.

I agree with enforcement of the rules.

That said, if anyone here believes that the Olympic Games is politics-free, I want to sell you some property.

The judging in the Olympics is rife with politics.

I had to slap someones peepee during an inspection during ROTC for his pledge pin. The retard had it pinned through the knot in his tie in service dress. C'mon, under the jacket where I can ignore it, great. Eye level with the short Commandant 2 steps to my right, you're an idiot.

x whatever we are up to on this, they made him remove "Miller Time" as well, but let him keep the tribute to his friend.

So I am a little confused, the IOC didn't like "Support our troops", on Quick's mask, but they really had nothing to say about the buff Uncle Sam , or the "Dont tread on me" on the side of Miller's mask? :wierd:
