Anyone hear how the young lady is doing that was burned a bit from there yesterday?
I hope she is doing alright and wish the best for her and her family.
Sorry to have witnessed all that crap and wished it never happened.
Jeeps are replaceable lives are not. :(

Dan and Matt would have more info, but from what I can tell she is doing fine.
Shes posted this on Facebook, and a pic of her feet wrapped up.
Matt took me to the burn unit at St Joe tonight and they said my feet look good. Go back in the morning to get the dressings changed and have the doctor look at them.

That was quite the experience... Think I breathed in half a fire extinguisher.

First of all, thanks for asking about her.

It was my wife Grace that was injured. I didn't know anything had even happened to her until after the fire was out on Dan's jeep. I saw her crying and when I checked on her she pointed at her feet. I didn't know what had happened. She said that they were burnt. We laid her down and people poured water on them over a cloth until EMS arrived. Thank you to all who were involved in getting the fire out and calling for the medics and keeping her calm until they arrived.

Once in the ambulance she they put some wet gauze on the burns and got her as comfortable as possible for the ride to Clare, to the hospital there.

Once there the doc looked at it and was concerned enough to send us to what they told us was a burn hospital in Flint. It really isn't a burn hospital, just a Level 1 trama center. So we took another ambulance for a 2 hour ride to Flint.

Once in Flint we waited over 3 hours in the ER for a trama doc to look at her. The same bandages that were on her feet from Clare were on her feet for over 5 hours till they were looked at in Flint. For the record, Ft Wayne, where we are from, is only 3 hours from Clare and we have a true burn hospital here, if I had to do that all over again, we'd just gone by car to Ft. Wayne from Clare and skipped Flint. Once the trama doc in Flint cleaned her up they finally released us after 11pm at night. The incident happened at 1pm.

I had a buddy (Chaz) on this board come up from Ft Wayne and picked her up in Flint at the hospital. He took her home, was able to get some meds from a local Walgreen's (had prescription script from Flint hospital) at 3am. He got her home. Dan came down from his house (1.5 hours) and picked me up from the Flint hospital. I passed out at his house for a couple hours and then went back to the park on Sunday morning to get the trailer/truck/jeep. I then drove the 3.5 hours home and unpacked the trailer.

We had one of our friends, who is a nurse, come over on Sunday morning (since I was still up north) and help change her bandages. She suggested follow up at the local burn hospital (we were going to do this on Tuesday, but she thought we should go Sunday) and let them change the bandages in the afternoon so they could make sure we got the appropriate treatment. Once I got the trailer unpacked and parked, I took her to the local burn hospital ER and we were then transferred up to the burn ward where they changed her bandages. They were happy with most of what Flint did, but not all. We then went back again on Monday morning and they changed them again.

She has 2nd burns on both of her feet. They are on the sides, not the bottom. I changed her bandages tonight before work and we are going back to the out patient burn ward again tomorrow morning to have them changes again.

She can only be up every three hours to go to the bathroom and walk around a bit. Thankfully Chaz and his wife made supper for us tonight and we have someone making dinner for us Tuesday night at least. Otherwise, I'm not much of a cook. She should be healed just in time for the baby to come around 10/11/12. The doc put her off work until after maternity leave. She is not upset about that at all.

She is in pain, but dealing with it pretty well. The baby is fine, we are going to try to see the baby doc in the next day or two, but there's nothing to indicate any issues there.

So three ER's with in two days and over 100 miles total in two different ambulances. I can't wait for the medical bills.

I was so mentally and physically exhausted that I took a 5 hour nap this afternoon. I've been checking in but haven't posted much because I haven't had much time. Thank you for checking in. I was going to post on GL4x4 I just haven't had a chance there.

Glad you are both home and mostly ok. When I ddn't know what happened, and still really dont, I freaked that she was hurt and wasn't sure if it would affect the baby. I guess a forced rest until the baby is a good thing when all said and done.

Hang in there Grace! Sorry to hear this happened but glad everyone will heal in time.

WOW......Grace and Matt ( and baby) You are in Tara and my thoughts. Glad to hear Grace is resting and doing better.

that is some scary stuff mac, hope grace heals quickly, i have been burned before(face, arms, hands) it is not fun at all, almost always in pain until it goes away. if it helps you can reassure her that eventually the pain does go away even though it may see like it wont, i had 3rd and spent 6 days in the hospital and over a month off work, takes a while but every day is healing. did they give her the proper ointments and what not? those things were like crack to me, felt soooo good to cover my face in the ointments the prescribed. dose she have to go in for "cleanings"? those were very painful.

thoughts and prayers out to you and your family.

SAM'wish i read this post before i texted you, now i feel kinda jerky'SET

No worries on the text.

We got all kinds of things that I'm sure we paid for...gause, lotions, ointments, you name it we got it. I have pics I'll post today.

Went to bed after work at 630, back at the out patient burn clinic at 1040...

I didn't know how serious the burns were. I also didn't realize that it was Mac and Grace everyone was talking about.

I hope Grace heals up quickly. Glad everyone is relatively alright.

2nd degree burns suck...especially when fuel is involved. when i was 15 i was pushing a motorcycle up a hill...because the battery was dead, i had the engine running to use the headlight. it was too muddy to ride up, and i slipped in the mud not knowing there was a large crack in the top of the tank. a stream of gas dumped out on my leg and as i stood up, the engine backfired through a crack in the exhaust and i blew up...literally. had to stop, drop and roll (it does work my friends) but because there was so much fuel, i lit up again after putting the fire out once. scariest thing that ever happened to me...now to be pregnant and to go through something like that means grace is a tough lady. 2nd degrees heal fairly well...in fact, im the only one who can see my scars because i know what to look for. glad there were enough folks there with extinguishers, and it sounds like the r & v folks jumped right in to help. glad everyone came out of it pretty okay...just make sure you take care of that lady mac :)

Hope Grace recovers quickly! and I hope both of you get some much needed rest before the little one comes along!

Mac, if Grace can look at you and not scream for her lawyer..... she's a keeper.

Get better, Grace.

Glad everybody is OK.

I stopped by dans Monday and talked for awhile about it. Could've been much worse. Goes to show how quickly the wheeling community bands together to help out.
