UHaul Trailers? Tow Capacity?

Do yourself a favor and hit up a bone yard and get a factory Class III hitch for an XJ. Any hitch from 1984 - 2001 will work. Get the hitch and the nut strips in the frame (the pieces of metal that the bolts screw into). That will be the strongest hitch you can get and will just plain FIT.

ZJ/WJ/XK hitches won't fit, different vehicles.
 
Just remember if you exceed the manufacturers tow rating and you get into an accident, your insurance company may not and probably will not cover the damages and you leave yourself open to be sued. Actually if you modify your suspension from stock and get into an accident, while towing, you are in the same boat. My truck has a suspension lift and I'm looking to change out my tow rig for this very reason.

good idea though, ill go look in the local jeep chapter. maybe someone there has something.. found on about an hour away for 40 bux though... for an XJ.

now, my question now is...... Will a hitch off a 93 fit a 01 XJ?

Check and make sure Karen's rig has factory nutzerts, if not, you'll need the strips that go inside the frame rails too...

Hold on there G..... not all hitches are created equally. I've sold several different brands and styles and have had to buy a couple back because they didn't fit around the gas tank, gas skid, exhaust hanger style, etc.

With some styles, the plastic tank on the newer rigs seems to make contact with the back of the receiver, others have bracketry that are a bit tight against the press-seam around the earlier steel tanks and the press-seam needs to be bent out of the way.

Jonathan, your '01 will have the pass. side nutsert. They use it for the rear exhaust hanger to bolt into. It's actually riveted in place from the factory. You'll just need the driver's side.

I should have clarified - I was only referring to OEM Class IIIs, that's all I have experience with.

You can spot an OEM receiver by the welded on wiring box to the drivers side fo the receiver tube, if it has that it's most likely OEM (haven't seen an aftermarket with a box style wiring connector).
 
The one im picking up tomorrow is a Valley brand. Says its 3,500lb wt. carrying, 5,000lb weight distributing? not sure what that means, but im guessing its legit. the guy says he has all the bolts that go with it... so im guessing that includes the nutsert....?
 
It might or might not.

At least in the earlier days Valley made the hitches for Mopar so it might be an OEM one or one that is almost exactly the same.
 
No, that's not OEM nor OEM style. The OEM mounting brackets are longer.
 
My primary concern would be the mounting hardware, aside from that I couldn't tell you as I have no experience with anything but the factory receivers; they are extremely common out here, so common that I have one sitting outside that I just can't sell!
 
Don't worry Surf, that one will be fine. Just make sure he gives you all the mounting hardware and have him explain real quick how it goes on.
