Okay so this summer (I am planning on it) I am going out to Indianpolis before Purdues fall semester starts, and well what kind of wheeling do y'all do out there? I am from the West Coast so I am used to lots of rocks, tall mountains, and mud. I mean what kind of wheeling do you guys do, I want to set my rig up for that type of wheeling b/c I am going to be out there for 4 years getting my degree.

Im in the same boat as you -

The dry rock sierra trails of CA are simialr, but the main difference out here is there are no dry trails till the end of summer - and then - sometimes not...

Imagine running your normal trails with mud stuffed in your tires and that is about the majorit of what I have seen in the midwest...

so, the a little higher crawl ratio for more wheel spin, and more of a mud terrain is a better tire than say the MT/r's....

that said - I run BFG AT's and am trying to get the lowest crawl ratio, i dont really wheel while at school, and am building for while I am at home...

So are you going to the Indy campus or the West Lafayette campus?

Either way, congrats! I finished up at the Indy campus 2 years ago.

What's the major? I'm guessing either agriculture or engineering, although their business school is getting a lot of recoginition lately.

Wherever it is you will be an hour from the Badlands and an hour from Redbird.

Plan for mixed trails. Mud, creek beds, twisting and turning in the trees, etc.

major: not sure I was always set on Aerospace but I am not sure now that I have found 4x4's. Gonna see a career counselor.

I am going to run 5.5" of lift with my V8. Maybe when I get to Indy I am going to put in my 4.10 gears.

I am actually going up to the West Lafayette campus.

~1/2 hr. from Badlands.

Go for mechanical engineering in general... specializing in something like aerospace or automotive will only serve to narrow your potential career fields. I have my BS in ME, and I specialize in machine design; I've worked in automated pharmaceutical packaging and material handling, and I'm currently with The Boeing Co designing ground support equipment for military aircraft.

Welcome to the Midwest, and be prepared for tight twisty trails with mud, water, trees and rocks. We've got it all.

That sounds nice. I cannot wait to get out there.
Yea, I don't blame you. If I had to wheel those weak-ass Cali trails regularly, I'd be excited about the Badlands too. :D

You won't have to worry about high altitude sickness in the midwest. A good a/c is a nice feature for summer. Hot and muggy, green 9 mo.out of the year.
As for building a good mud tire and gearing to allow wheel speed. I run 4.56 gears and 38" TSL's on my CJ7

Well I have already been out there for a year. I am back at home to build up my Jeep and get it back out there. But really I am hoping I can find a lady out there. I am really looking forward to that.

I'm sorry but this is too much funny.
You live in Cali and come to the MW for wheeling and women. :dunno:

Ah Benicia...Not that far from me.

DO not get me wrong I love Cali, but I hate the Bay Area, Los Angeles, San Diego...They are not all what they are hyped up to be. I mean granted, the women are beautiful, but their personalities are that of a pile of dog shit.

Purdue is more of my home than Cali is. I can be happy no matter the place. Plus the price is everything is so damn high...I mean if I want a sandwich I do not want to sell my soul for it.

But anyway, I am just excited to get out there and hang with all of my friends, and see all of the hot women I know.
