tranny cooler south east question

so I live in florida where its hotter than the devils a$$ most of the time, except right now. I know that the tranny resevoir deal in the radiator gets the tranny fluid up to operating temp and most people run the tranny cool after it passes through that. Since I live in florida would it be ok to run it through the tranny cooler only and NOT through the radiator? thanks in advance.

I've run 2 4.0L XJ's like this with no trouble and plan to do so with my current XJ as well.

Trust me...the auto will get up to temp just fine without the radiator 'cooler' in the line.

I actually have 2 coolers in my garage to pick from...just have to get some lines to run them and slap one in.

If you need one let me know...I'll make you a deal.

Should be fine. I have one on my xj and it does not appear to have made much difference except to help cool it.

i've never heard of the radiator helping the transmission fluid get up to temp.

but i do know it is an internal trans cooler inside the radiator.

all factory automatics have that. other wise the automatic would severely over heat especially in wheeling conditions.

if you are hard on your tranny, IE: big tires with stock gears you DEFINITELY need to run an external cooler.

my tranny started going out on me and i was only running 31's. it was an older tranny but i still am a firm believer in keeping the tranny fluid as cool as possible. they have no problem building heat of their own. lots of friction in there, thats how they're designed to work.

I ran my external cooler downstream from the radiator cooler. That way the fluid is cooled once, then again, I haven't checked the temps but after blowing a tranny with the stroker I figure more cooling for the trans fluid is better. Just my opinion.
