Trails

As usual for the SoCalFest the trail scheduling is going to be on the casual side pending how many rigs show up, the build level of those rigs, and local conditions on the mountain. Rest assured that event leadership will be ready with rough ideas on the mornings and make the final call at the Discovery Center meeting.

So on the list of possibilities so far (if you have any others you'd like to see speak up!):

A note on ratings:
Easy: Anybody can make it on this one.
Moderate: 30" tires (undersized tires of driver is known to be experienced) Limited Slip in one axle recomended.
Hard: Okay, it's not really that hard (Big Bear isn't that demanding). 31" tires, one locker suggested.

Hard Trails:
John Bull (I WILL be doing this )
Holcomb Creek, Lower & Upper
Pontiac Sluice / Onyx Loop

Moderate Trails:
Holcomb Creek using alternate enterance
Heartbreak Ridge

Easy Trails:
The 3N16 & Jacoby Canyon Tour
East Big Bear Tour (Partial 2N02, 2N01, and 2N04)
Mt. Baldy *NEW* trail. This may or may not be included (I have to work out a few things with the forest service first). More details on this later.

Unknown Trails (See note)
Deep Creek - Who's ran this recently, what should it be rated as?
Dishpan - Again, who's ran it recently?

Deep Creek and Dishpan Springs are the same trail. I ran it a few months ago. I would say that it is a moderate to hard, because of a couple of areas, including a tough waterfall. Even the bi-pass can be tricky.

I am up for leading either Dishpan and Holcomb. Both trails can be ran together. Depending on the number of rigs, you can possibly fit in another one.

I think a good run would be dishpan-holcomb running west to east.. that would be fun.. but might be a longer one with a big group.

dishpan is such a short trail it would be nice to connect to another trail and run it together.


Kinda like we did on the kj trip remember robert?

go through disphan then banzai through holcomb...

THere will be a dinner, and a raffle and all the regular stuff. I will be posting some info by the end of the week hopefully as you are correct: The time is coming near! (damn it's almost middle of March already!!!)

I have already got the day off from work and the boss (wife) is going out of town. I may have my son with me, but I am going to try to get my mother-in-law to come down Thursday or early Friday morning. I may not get to make the trail maintainence, but I am going to do my best. It was awesome last year!

At this point I have a trail coordinator (Mr. TBent) as well as a cook (Mr. JohnX)

We will need a few folks to help setup for food and a few folks to help with cleanup. Also we will need some folding tables.

I too can provide a folding table, but I can't bring it up with me in the XJ. If someone is taking a truck up, I can bring it over somewhere.

There is RV camping @ the campground where we will stage out of. We should have some info about camping shortly.

the dishpan/holcome run sounds good to me if I have the xj I may opt for something easyer for my wifes sake(scares easily) but the YJ has a cage and 4 point harnesses so

I can lead the Dishpan Springs/Deep Creek and Holcomb run.

I will ask that folks have the requirements as well as a locker, tow-points, and at least 3" of lift and 31" tires . Rock rails at your choice, it's your rig.

I have been with folks with no lockers and they did make these trails with problem.

These are fun trails, and some of the best Big Bear has to offer.

They are rated "most difficult" by Forest Service. There is about a 20 min drive on the road to the start of Deep Creek. We will disconnect and air-down at the trail head.

Please post up in the "Deep Creek/Holcomb Creek" thread if you wish to run these trails.
