trails on Cape Cod

Good Evening...
When I first got started 4 wheeling years ago, the hot spot was a place in Wareham called Seawood Springs. It went on for miles, and attracted tons of people. There were water crossings and a couple of trailsides ponds. I have not been up there for at least ten years but now that I have my XJ I am going to start exploring again. Anyone ever heard of the spot??

I never heard of it but I think it would be great if someone can identify a legal place to wheel on the cape so we could do a chapter event out there.

Let us know if you get any further info.

Looks like fun. I'd be up for a beach run, but I don't want to buy a season pass for one day (or one weekend) of wheeling.

You can buy a week pass (like $20 or so) as long as you get there early in the day.

I dont know about the "legality" of the area, but at the time it was the best spot around the Cape to go wheeling. It went on for miles, was out essentially in the middle of nowhere. If someone from the board is from Wareham, I believe everyone from the area knows about Seawood Springs. Honestly you could spend an entire day out there and not see the same scenary twice. It does border Miles Standish state forest, and I myself have made some intrusions on the area, striclty by accident. I am hoping to take a jaunt out there next weekend, after I install my locker. When I have done a recon of the area, I will post my results. In the meantime, if you have family or friends from wareham, ask them if they have ever heard of it.

yeah the nat'l seashore is really a beautiful trip, but when i went two years ago to P-twn (race point) the week pass was 90 bills... sandy neck in barnstable is decent as well. you can go on the trails but its fun to fish and have a fire. also u cant spend the night on any of the beaches so plan on a camp ground or hotel. i would def be down for a get together down here in the cape.

I'm willing to put some effort into trying to organize a ride out there, but need more info. We easterners are accustomed to "pay to play" (Paragon charges $35 a day and Rausch Creek isn't far behind), but I don't think any of our members are going to spend $90 for a weekend of sand.

If you can get more specific on Barnstable and send me a PM I'd appreciate it. Stuff like how long are the trails, how difficult, fees, are the trails open to non-residents, nearby camping facilities, etc.

Thanks

hey eagle, ill look into sandy neck. i know that the trails are not accesible to the general public, but maybe we could try to organize a cleanup or something cuz it is really a beautiful trip on the back beach. i believe that its $15 per day non res to get on, but ill double check. as for camping ill look too i know that there is a lil motel right b4 the beach access. a trip down here would be cool...bring the surf rods!! woohoo

I seriously doubt that more than one or two NAC members even have surf rods, and most will probably not be excited at the prospect of watching a piece of string dangle in the ocean. That's why I asked how long the trail is -- if there isn't enough there to keep people rolling for a day or two, I don't think we'll get much interest.

Doesn't mean we won't try to set it up, but it may play to a different audience.

I am right down the road from Sandy Neck, its nice but from what I understand its becoming more and more expensive to use. I may be wrong on this, but I am close enough that if you folks would like me to, on a day off go down there and get the details.

its not a hardcore wheelin trail...basically all you can do is drive out on the beach (4 miles) and park. if you all are still interested lemme know, ill go find out about passes today...

Yeah, it's all about the beach and trying to get stuck. :) my dad used to go out there all of the time to fish and stuff, it's great espically if we go at a hot time for fishing but then there'll be too many people there to run around and stuff. Be careful though because I know someone who had her XJ burn up on a beach up there somewhere (I think nauset). She was just joyriding with a couple of boys then she got suck. and blam went up in flames, they got out ok though which is a good thing.

Anyway, if you guys organize a ride out there, I'll be glad to go out there with you guys. no problem there. My old man probably will want to join us but in the jeep not his 250.

I went back today to my old 4 wheeling site today. Since the kids were home for vacation it seemed like a plan. Most of the area is just the way I remember it, LOTS of trails, water crossings and some ponds. I spent the entire day out there with the kids and did not even cover a 1/4 of it. Now that I am older and a cop to boot, I paid close attention to any off-limits signs. I only found one and it was a general hunting/trapping etc, way out on the boundary of Miles Standish. There were a coulpe of new gates, but they were open, not broken open either. There was a company name on it and I was debating contacting the CO. to see if permission could be given to use the land. If anyone is interested in getting on board with this let me know.

I think it's safe to say we're always interested in checking out new places to wheel. By all means please follow up. Heck, I'll even spot you a donut.

My thought was to gather as much info as possible. I took my GPS with me today, to mark a few spots for further reference. The believe the area covers a good portion of Wareham, Plymouth, and maybe Carver. I am used to using the MGRS system to land-navigate, does anyone have one of those fancy GPS units that display more info. The problem is I want to know exactly what this area covers(county, town etc), then I can make the inquires and know exactly who has the right to grant permission.

hey guys, i checked up on sandy neck, and no one really knew what was up. but i believe that the general concensus is that you have to buy a season pass if u wanna go on the beach, the non resident season pass is $100. def not worth it, the place is cool but not that cool...

FYI: I heard it on the radio yesterday about beach passes. It was said that as soon as the season passes came out, they were sold out in minutes. The week pases were still available. I heard Nauset Beach, not sure if Sandy Neck too. It would be worth a phone call before anyone drieves down though.

To ALLCON,
I was just looking over a map that covers the area I have been describing so much recently. According to the map most of it is within the Miles Standish state forest, which hopefully is a good thing. I am hoping that some of the senior association members can help me out on this one. I would like to petition the MS state forest for use of the trails, perhaps in exchange for an organized clean-up. I did notice plenty of piles of junk being dumped out there. I have read plenty of posts about you folks organizing this type of event and I could use some guidance on this one. Not sure about the legality of representing the Assoc. if I were to talk to the officials myself. Eagle, maybe your input here? I think for most of the members in the NE area this would be a great spot to utilize. Please feel free to PM or e-mail me about this, thanks!

There would be no problem at all with your making a preliminary inquiry. Ryan and Scott made the initial contacts for the recent cleanup in RI before NAXJA formally voted to get involved as a sanctioning body. The cleanup wasn't limited to NAXJA members, though. We had at least three formal clubs represented, plus people from some informal groups. And there may have been other clubs represented that I didn't recognize.

By all means, if you can find the person or persons to contact, a preliminary discussion as to the possibility of trading some grunt work for some trail access doesn't have to commit either side.
