Trailer Junk Yard?

Anybody know of a junk yard that specializes in camper trailers and such? I am thinking of building an expedition trailer and wanted to find all the "innerds" before finalizing the design.

What kind of "innards" Tom?

One of my coworkers scoops the free campers on CL, recycles the metals and extracts the BTUs from everything else (He lives near Central City). He probably has a stockpile of fittings and appliances.

LOL! I exchanged a couple e-mails with that guy! I was considering an old slide-in for the truck for a great price, but needed jacks and saw his ad that he "salvages" campers..... small world! :D

Looking for a cook top, propane furnace, sink, porta pot, etc. Possibly a door with jamb.

I am toying with making an off road tear drop style just big enough for two people. I've scoped an axle for $75.

I wouldn't be surprised if you've had contact with some of my other coworkers in your primary occupation. I know a few have been "guests" down there.

Tom just set it up where a table hangs from the side ,the white plastic folders set your cook stove on it also a metal mixing bowl in a hole you cut in the table ' some of the tent camper places have things like that in there acessories stores and yo can get some ideas

Tom,
I just found an RV junk yard on 124th and Brighton Rd.
I am building a teardrop right now. I would like to hear more about your project.
I will post the name, address and phone here in a few.

Thanks, I looked through your complete thread. I have been working on a half dozen designs for expedition trailers over the last year. While I think the teardrop looks ugly, it has a ton of advantages. I like the rear hatch opening for the cook center. I like to cook and BBQ on the trail. I have built pop up trailers from scratch as well as rebuilding them. I even took a van and put a fiberglass stand up top on it and built a complete camper inside back in 1976, so I have been around the block on this stuff.

I located a source for nice two burner built in propane stoves for around $60 delivered. I can get a 3 burner unit for less than $100. The most expensive part is the propane furnace. New I can get them for around $350. I am hoping to find a good used one considerably cheaper.

I am a bit frustrated because I can't find a 2000# axle with 5x5.5 bolt pattern to match my rig. I was hoping to share a spare. It takes at least a 3000# axle to get that pattern.

I have a commercial account with Red Neck Trailer sales and can get you dealer cost.

If you need any fab help, let me know. I have a well equiped shop and have welders, plasma cutters, water cooled horizontal band saws and the like.

I'm still looking for sources for the trim pieces and door hardware. I used to buy it all from a builder in Longmont called Red Dale but they are out of business.

PM sent with my co-worker's addy. He did say he had a heater.

If you guys are interested, if everybody got their chassis plans together, we could take a Saturday and weld up all the chassis's and mount the axles in one day. I have a nice 230v mig, a water cooled band saw and all the toys. I could actually have all the steel delivered to my place. I have a commercial account to buy new axles if anybody needs.

Nothing like a little 8 hour drive each way.
