Trail status

Hi,

Does anybody know status of any of the following trails(open/closed)?

Strawberry(between 50 and 88)
Deer valley
Slick rock
Niagara rim.

It looks like access to Deer valley on hwy 4 is closed

Eldorado forest site shows Strawberry not as closed, but "inaccessible due to snow". How bad it is ?

Niaraga Rim is closed.
There is no snow on Strawberry entrance on hwy 50 side. Deep snow patches on the trail.

Probably nothing, but I managed to show my friend and his son some good time this Sunday.

Unless we get some really hot weather there is a good chance for some patches of snow on Deer Valley in June. Sounds fun

I missed the part where you ran the trail. Sounds like fun, I was not sure if "deep snow patches" ment impassable.

Opie have you opened your Wells book to find the trail? Where is everyone going to meet for this run? it will be a day run for me.

The road has long and wide patches up to 2", chains required to pass, agressive tires would do, I guess. The 4wd part has patches 3"+ deep, pointy-shaped, one can one wheel on a patch, one a the ground - an easy way to get high-centered.

We're going to go camping just east of Arnold on Hwy 4 from Friday to Sunday with plans to run Deer Valley and/or Slickrock. I'll give a trail report on whichever trails we hit Monday.

If anyone wants to join us, feel free. We'll be camping up off of Boards Crossing Rd in Dorrington. Sorry for the last minute plans - but sometimes you just gotta get out of town. PM for exact campsite directions.

Last saturday, members of two clubs "opened" slickrock. Cleared all downed trees,and blazed through the snow.To make it through the top of slickrock (snow), you should not be almost stock.They went in from Utica Reservoir side.

Here's an update from this weekend. We had 2 lightly modded vehicles and 4 with winches and lockers (1 vehicle on 31's, 3 on 33's).

a) Slickrock: Still lots of snow. We came in from Hwy 4 and just barely made it past the lake. We made it to the second house (the one on the private road). Just after that, there is an off-camber section sloping down to the right that snakes between some tight trees. The snow there is probably 3' deep still. We were worried about body damage due to sliding into the trees with the lighter-equipped vehicles so we turned back. The trail has been run - we could see the tracks.

b) Deer valley: we didn't make it to Deer Valley but heard reports from another group that lockers and winches were still needed in some sections.

c) Corral Hollow: Even Corral Hollow had some deep snow (2'-3') remaining. We went in from the entrance at the Alpine County sign. The vehicles without lockers couldn't go further than half a mile up the trail. Vehicles with lockers didn't have any trouble on 31" or bigger tires.

d) Some trail just off the road to the Bear Valley Ski Resort - I'll get the name later: Still lots of snow on South facing slopes and shady areas. There was one steep hill about 1 mile up the trail that we couldn't get past. The snow was 3' deep and was pushing the vehicles towards trees. Winches were required to make it up the hill. Stock vehicles had no chance.

It was 83* during the day, snow should be melting pretty quickly. Another 2-3 weeks and these trails should be passable by mildly modified rigs.
