First time experience for me - throwing it out there for discussion.

Today on the way back from a project, I decided to take a little sand wash canyon detour just for kicks. I was alone, but had run this canyon before, it is 2wd passible for the most part.

I came upon two guys in a Nissan truck stuck in the sand. The guy asked for a bumper to bumper push, which I declined since it was likely to just cause damage and unlikely to get them unstuck. I didn't have any recovery gear and neither did he. These guys were not typical looking off roaders, the situation was a bit sketchy. We weren't far from the road and since my instincts were telling me to keep my distance, I gave them a bottle of water and told them if I saw somebody with a strap I'd send them their way.

Now looking back I don't really know if I successfully avoided being rolled by some sketchy undesirables or if I left two poor fools stranded in the canyon.

Thoughts? experiences?

I wouldn't worry about it, they are probably out by now, and if they aren't it sure is a gorgeous night tonight!

Just tweakers. Leave them alone for a few hours and they will take the truck apart and put it back together on solid ground.

That has to be the best post in a long time. Rolling here. :worship::roflmao:

you did pretty much the same thing i would have done, had i been rolling solo.
it's hard to keep your eye on two separate possible weirdos at the same time, while trying to unstuck them.
if they're not that far from the road, and aren't in any kind of physical danger, they'll be fine....and maybe they'll learn a little something about preparation.
i'd have done the same. maybe asked them if they had a phone, if not i'd have offered to call someone for them and give their location, then wish them well and be on the way.

i got a few stories about tweaker encounters off the beaten path.

they never end up good.

for them mostly.

Not trying to be a wise arse but... first let me say I think you did the right thing but... why no recovery gear? I keep a bag in both my jeeps and my truck. Seems you may be out off the beaten path often... may want to add a bag to your vehicle?

Well, they're probably dead by now. I strangely recall seeing something on the news about a missing party in a Nissan a week or so back. Do you recall where this was at? Maybe we can go rifle thru their truck for valuables.

I am definately being a wise ass here, but he didnt need recovery gear.... the alledged tweakers did.

No recovery gear because I was in my daily driver JKUR. This was an just an impromptu work day detour through a 2wd passable canyon - no where near my limits.

These knuckleheads were only stuck because the tried to pass through the only soft section of loose sand.

When we head out for wheeling we pack the gear.

I usually have a strap, shovel, and hi-lift, even just going to Home Depot, but that is probably because I am too lazy to find a safe place for that stuff in my garage, and it's not my DD.

Ok, i concede, i used my tow strap today to untweak a fence post.

As long as you weren't using your tow strap to untweak a tweaker...:wow:
