Tonight....WE WRENCH!!!!

AAARRRRRRRRRRRRGGGGGGGHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!

Seems like everything I want is made from unobtanium:

MOPAR discontinued the select fit bearings, 5 of my mains are .001 under from the factory.

It took awhile to find my inside micrometer. Good news is that I found the standard in one of the cases. The other precision measuring tools that I had doubted are balls-on.

I looked at some engine cleaning brushes at NAPA.com, called the store: Not a set to be had in the state. FINE!!!!!! I went to the sporting goods and hit up the gun cleaning supplies.

With any luck at all, I'll have my bearing clearances checked tonight.

$40 at NAPA, NOT!!!

WELLFOOKMERUNNIN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

ONE of the main bearing half-shells was a .010 under. I'll be back at the NAPA wharehouse first thing in the AM.

I still have to decide on which oil pump to run. Maybe I'll just buy both while I'm there. :smsoap::flamemad::explosion

LOL It's not too often I get so emo that it oozes from my fingertips.

I took the set back for an exchange. They don't have any on the shelf. The closest set is in...Billings. If I'm willing to pay the shipping cost of $5, they can have it at the WAREHOUSE in 3 days. I asked her to pull the .010-under set to see if my standard bearing was in that box: They don't have a .010-under set at the wharehouse, or in Colorado. NAPA just gave up their competitive edge.

Out of sheer bewilderment I plastigauged the original bearings. My 12+ year old plastigauge says I'm barely in spec. I'll pick up some fresh plastigauge, if there is any to be found in Colorado...

It is becoming a disease these days........... nothing is ever kept in stock unless there is a high demand for it!! Quite pathetic if you ask me, the Walmart mentality is catching.................... :smsoap:

It looks like NAPA saved me some money:

My local store had plastigage made in this century.

The factory main bearings have a .0015 oil clearance.

Rod bearings tomorrow. :)

Rods at .002".

A certain 2-door's tranny now shifts.

Not too bad for an old man.

Work is gonna suck today. :)

SWEET!!!:thumbup::thumbup: Now get over here and do my engine transplant. :D

Just kidding. I'll be going slow and swapping some of the newer parts over to the drop-in. It's gonna be a looooooong weekend.

Tonight those newish parts mount to the replacement engine. Tomorrow we lift! :)

Do-overs suck. LOL

After the neighborhood wakes up I have to clearance the oil pan for the new HV oil pump. It's gonna get some ball-peen LOVE! :pirate1:

that good ol' red-neck ingenuity!:gee:
It took a couple hammer-slaps to get those top bell housing bolts to break loose too...once I could reach them. :smsoap: I had to remind myself that they have been there for 20 years.

I called in Sunday eve for Monday. I think it's going to cost a day's pay, but I can't leave parts strewn all over the driveway.

It's...ALIVE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
