TNT Y-link = Owned UCA Bushings

So I looked over my setup with bobnoxious (Bob at Baystate Offroad) and I'm trying to figure out why the TNT setup goes through bushings, and why Clayton's does not.

As of right now, my travel is 4" up and 8" of droop.

My trac bar is slightly biased towards the driver's side...not much, maybe 1/4-1/2 inch.

I just looked at the bushings again before coming inside to work...and even parked, at ride height, there is already bind going on. The bushings are already heavily distorted similar to this...(this was my stock bushing replacement, it was about a month or two old)

Is it something to do with the lowers being inboard the frame rails, or being bent, or there being such a small "triangle" between the UCAs and LCAs?

Vetteboy? Cal? Anyone? I'm losing my mind over this !!!1

well just from looking at that pic, have you ensured all arms are the exact same length. if one lower is shorter (driver side) but the upper is longer than pass side it could rotate the axle as such.

or, bent axle.

I haven't doublechecked the uppers yet, I'm going to do that and readjust my trac bar tonight if the temp warms up.

The lowers are both right at 32".

One thing I'd be interested to see...if you take the bolt out where the arms come together (at the bend), does the upper arm fall naturally to that connection point? Or is the angle of the bushing different than the angle of the arm?

Actually that is one thing that I did notice when taking the uppers off everytime (or putting them on for that matter).

Both UCAs would require a decent amount of force and then they would "pop" off the axle side mount and move towards the center of the jeep.

FWIW I have TNT's LCA brackets and stock UCA mounts. But the LCAs went in without any issues/binding.

If I understood that correctly, wouldn't that indicate that the uppers where too short? Being the the lowers can't "shrink" the UCA joints would have to "extend" in order to deal with the difference, thus the reason you are killing UCA axle mounts.

Oh, BTW... you've just made me rethink my front suspension.

That would only be the case if the lengths weren't equal. Otherwise you'd just be adjusting your caster/pinion angle.

True. Exactly was I was getting trying at, I guess I wasn't clear and shouldn't have added that 's' o the end of "uppers". Me = :dunce:
3-link it. That's what I think I may end up doing...
Already working on the numbers. I think I've got it pretty much nailed, just got make sure I can fit the panhard where I need to.

It sounds like the uca mount on the LA isn't aligned correctly?I havent replaced any bushings on my LA's in 7yrs,and I wheel the piss out of it.

x2 design flaw! You don't want to be heavily misaligning the bushing just to get it to bolt up, that will eat through bushings!

Colin, i think you should replace the whole passenger UCA mount. Even stockers have bent and tore the factory mounts before. Even though you plated and boxed it, it very well could have been tweaked already. Plus, you can run a different bushing setup. Before you go spending money on another setup, I'd try the Rubicon Express UCA mount from their bracket kit. When I destoryed the stock one, i used one of these. Its runs the RE small superride bushing so you reuse stock size hardware. its a 3/16" or 1/4" mount. When i mounted mine, i bolted in the other three control arms and track bar. i bolted the pass. UCA to the bushing on the mount and followed the arc of the arm to locate the mount on the axle. i tacked it in, then removed it to fully weld it. wehn i assembled it, nothin was bindin and bolted together perfect. i destoryed the skyjacker truss around this thing and its still in perfect shape. i think that mount and re-setting your track bar length should help.

So I adjusted my track bar last night, and took it out to the NAC run today.

After wheeling it all day, I checked my bushings and they don't seem distorted at ride height anymore. Odd to think that that slight misalignment from the track bar would cause it but we'll see :dunno:

Hope they hold up...

OMG I thought I was the only one with this problem, I went through 2 sets last year..... It isn't my driving :)

The T&T truss that I purchased in October did not use the RE bushings. Instead it came with some poly bushings.
As mentioned, they did use RE previously.

Same, the TNT truss for my HP44 I bought last April came with Polybushings as well. I talked with Bill (RCman) and he received RE bushings with his D60 truss that he got not too long ago.

The truss was ordered in July '07 (but I didn't get if for several months later). Maybe they switched to a different setup recently.
Either way, those mounts/bushings were cut off and are now in Ross's hands to be used as spares.

I had our local club friendly guy at NAPA (super knowledgeable guy) price these for me... He said he couldn't get Crown parts and that all his Delco/Moog/TRW stuff only shows XJ/ZJ/TJ stuff. Nothing distinct for WJ.

What's up with that? Maybe it's a Canuckistan thing.

Sure enough, the Canuck version of the site that Cal posted doesn't carry the part either.

Beakie, have you pursued this?
