Tires for a daily driver

It is time for some new tires. My 98 is stock and does not see much tougher than a dirt road or construction site. 95% of the time I am sitting in I95 rush hour traffic. I am looking for advice on a good all-around tire.

Thanks!

BFG AT's. Nice tire, good tread life.

If your looking for good road tires and good wheeling tires I have some on my jeep right now. They are pretty grippy. I havent noticed any bad wear on them but they are michelins.. I can post all the info about them if you are looking to get a good at tire

BFG AT, or if you wanted to go just slightly larger than stock then the Mickey Thompson Baja MTX Radial in a 225/75R15 is a good all-terain tire too.

BFG AT/KO's, BJ's wholesale has them for about $104 ea mounted and balanced in LT235/75R15, the 30x9.50's are about $4 more per tire. Good warranty as you get a road hazard at no extra charge and they also have liftime rotation and balancing too. I renewed my BJ's membership cause it was cheaper to renew and buy them there then going to get them at the next lowest priced place, Sears. Price difference between the two was almost $20 a tire....

I am interested in all opinions. Please post away.

I need a good tire that leans heavily on the street side. I guess I am looking for a long wearing tire that is good in the dry, rain and snow. Not too much to ask for, eh!

Thanks again!

To add to my previous post as far as I am concerned the Pirelli Scorpion AT was by far the most awsome tire I ever had on the XJ, its ability on wet roads was downright awe inspiring, treated wet roads like they were dry and basically ignored water. As far as snow was concerned they tended to ride on top of anything over 3" deep, off road they were very good on sand, dirt, mud and rocks. They even worked well on wet leaves covering rocks. Downside was milage, they only lasted about 55K and the sidewalls started cracking but that might have been my fault for using tire cleaner and armourall and formula 303.
I did not buy another set because Sears stopped carrying them, originally when I bought them Sears had them for like $59 a tire in P235/75R15, when it came time for another set they did not have them anymore and the local pirelli dealer wanted about $150 a tire so I bought Dunlops Rover AT's, they were OK, not near as good on wet roads but other wise they were OK, lasted about 70k. I now have the BFG AT's and am happy with them, will be replacing them with the same tire only bigger in another couple of months when the OME goes in...

i will suggest the GoodYear Wrangler AT/S... its nothing like the RT/S (junk) .. i have had them on my daily drivers for about 5 years now and always buy another set when needed... they are excellent in the snow and rain and have 2 large "water channels" around the circumference of the tire.. the best pricing i found so far is from www.tirerack.com you can see a picture of it as well on their site... i run 30s on my daily driver and coldnt be happier.. the few times i wheeled them i was suprised how well they did for an "AT" tire..

Cooper Discoverer LT. On a "bang for the buck" basis, there is no comparison. Plus, they're made in America (if that matters to you).

Michelin LTX - AT
i really like them they are good on all surfaces and they have decent tread wear my father was in the tire business for quite a few years and he says they are a good tire so. I guess thats good

I've done well with my Toyo Open Country A/Ts so far - I've handled everything from pavement to snow to green trails at Paragon without trouble, and they seem to be wearing well.

They don't look as aggressive as the BFGs, but they seem to hold their own pretty well.

I think they run about $100/each.

I have 30x9.50x15 BFG at's on my 94xj and I drive 40 miles 1 way to work everyday. Best all around tire I have used yet! I have around 60k on them and they are just now starting to show wear. The last set I had last over 75k. They are quiet yet ultra agressive offroad. Good luck with your choice!

I have a set of Trail Guide RTs on my Commanche and they work very well. I bought them at the local VIP for something around 60 bucks a tire. They're a size 235/75 R15. I've had them on there alittle over a month with some decent street driveing and have not noticed any sign of treadware. They are pretty decent on the pavement and handle water very nicely, and they work great in the mud, they clean off very nicely. I don't know for sure how they will handle in the snow but I have faith in them. They have a tread that looks like a mix between an AT and MT tire.

I have Michelin X Radial LT's on our 96, and they have been good to us. It''s 2wd, but I have taken it up some sloppy washed out roads to camp around Mt. Katadin, and on many trips to Atlanta (1,200 miles HWY) with good results.

I had LTX'x on my light truck and they did very well.

Michelin are probably one of the best tires on the road, you pay for it in price though.

I think I need to go buy another set.

BTW they also own BFGoodrich, and Uniroyal.

another vote for the bridgestone dueler at revos, i put about 30,000 miles on mine and they wore great....the only reason i got rid of them is cause i went to 31's

Thanks for all of the replies!

On a quick search of Costco.com the stock tires are 225's. Going up to 235's increases choices a whole lot. How does this effect mileage? Anything else to consider going up 1 size? As I said these tires are for a 99% pavement pounder.

Also do I want a P2?5 or a LT2?5?
