alrighty...i have some "sears only" michelins on my stock 88' (215/75/15) and was looking for some input on what tires to go with.

doing a 2" budget, staying with stock 15", and going 30x9.5x15

lets say a safe 80% on road, and 20% light non rockcliming, muddy powerline trails for offroading.

i am unsure about going a/t or m/t.

i'm looking at kumo m/t's, bf m/t's, pro comp...etc..
but i don't plan on playing in hte bogs so to speak...just some "big mud puddles on hte power lines)

on the other had i like the yoko geolanders, revo's, and bf at ko's (leaning to the ko's)

so my question is what do you guy's recomend? any onthger tires i am over looking? i don't need tires right this second...but i might swap them closer to summer and just want to get some feedback, thanks.

for what your doing id go with the BFG AT's. ive had em on for a while doing the same sort of thing as you and they have worked great. The MT's will wear a lof faster then you might like

I ran the bfg at's and liked them a lot, except in the mud...I had a new set on, drove about 30' onto my rainsoaked powerline road and got really stuck. Nothing deep or boggy, just fresh spring grass and clay to fill the tread--couldn't spin it clean. Neighbor in his cj just happened to be passing by and popped me out. I'm searching for a good road/mud combo tire, too. Oh, the at's are quiet on the road, grip great in the wet pavement, run well on the dirt roads and last forever ( I got over 95K on my last set!) I tried the bridgestone dueler at's and liked them a lot, as well. great on the highway--i drove to canada and back on a brand new set last summer and they were quiet and grippy on road as well as the dirt. I never hasd the chance to try them in any muddy conditions-I crashed that rig this fall before the rains started out here on the coast. read the article in the current Jp issue--lots of good word about a wide range of tires. good luck

cooper s/t

good agressive all terrain that cleans well in the mud and is great on the road.

Another vote for the Cooper S/T. I had them on my 2000 w/th 2 inch lift. They are great in the mud, snow and on the road. I can't believe people aren't more aware of these.

if you want a more mild tread... here's a vote for the Bridgestone Dueler Revo ATs. excellent on wet roads (no more 180s!) and I haven't getting stuck with them yet... ran some wet blue trails (rocks) with my stock size tires with no problems. kept up nicely with the TJs and their mud tires. oh, also pretty good in snow, went through 18" of snow with no problems. Haven't had a chance to try anything deeper with them.

the BFG ATs are very good, I'd rate them the #2 A/T tire you can get for all-around performance, a little higher than the Revos in mud, but... I dragged a stock TJ 100 feet through 8" deep mud yesterday with my Revos at normal tire pressure (33 psi for me). man, that was fun! :)

for M/T tires... I'd recommend the Firestone Destination M/Ts. after that, the famous Goodyear MTRs (although a bit more expensive)

keep in mind that MTs will wear faster, be louder, and usually don't have weather siping (the main reason I bought new tires when I did... tired of doing sudden u-turns with my stock Goodyear tires). they will give more traction, so if you plan on doing serious wheeling, they are something to consider. but, if you only do mild stuff, A/Ts should be fine, but I'd choose a set with weather siping to save headaches on wet roads.

Not sure if the Cooper Discoverer STT is the same as what has already been mentioned (Cooper S/T), but I also agree with the Cooper suggestion. I have had my Cooper STT's for a year or more now. They wear great, not too loud on highway and are great in mud, sand and most any terrain I have been in. They clean very well in nasty mud and since they are radials, they ride fantastic for an offroad tire.

its not the same, the stt is the mud terrain whereas the st is more of an all terrain although i'm almost hesitant to call it that as it is very aggressive. either one would be a great choice.

Another vote for Cooper here. I've put 17,000 miles on my 235/75's STT Radials and I'm still over 50% tread. This is also with me running mostly highway. I'm anal with tire rotations and air pressure however.
I love the new STT's though as well and they might be my next tire. Anyone running the new STTs??

There is always a difference in opinion based upon what each person expects out of a tire and the use intended.

For a long lasting good all around tire, the BFG A/T's are good, I've seen them do some really good stuff, but not extreme.

For a good all around tire, with a little more noise (still acceptable) and wear, Goodyear MT/R. This is what I am running and love them. (and I've heard that MT/R is not a Mud tire, but "Maximum Traction / Reinforced") They do work very well in the rain, and actually have so much wet traction that I get more wheel hop than tire spin.... I do not know about wear yet, I only have about 3K on mine, but so far love them... They are a little more pricey than the BFG's...

I tried the Yokahoma AT+II's previously, and thought they did ok... They lasted decent, but didn't do as good on wet traction and wore uneven compared to others.

My overall opinion for what your uses are, I would recommend the BFG AT's.....

Just me $.02.......

X2 , BFG AT's are garbage off-road, the MT's are a great tire though.

x3

BFG AT's are nice on the street, but the first time you go off-road you will regret your purchase. I got stuck with them, A LOT! MT's are a much better tire. They wear a little faster, but not that fast. I got about 30k out of my MT's.

When I ran the AT's, 3 out of the 4 tires failed...they had bulges pop up in between the tread. Only good thing about this was they were warrantied and I got to replace them after only 10K with some new MT's. I will never recommend BFG AT's to anyone.

I run Dunlop RV Radial Rovers currently. Since I do more on road right now...They are rated to 60K miles and have a more aggresive lug style then the BFG...They get great grip for an AT tire, but I would trade in my set of AT 32's for a set of Kumho MT's in 1 no time....even though I do alot of on road...MT's are so great offroad.

hmmm...interesting...and i though the bf's were a good tire....i'll look into the coopers though

The other good thing about the coopers is you can find them alot cheaper than the BFG's depending on your tire store. Around here they are $20-25 per tire cheaper than the BFG's.

smart move ;)

well when I originally got my lift I was really excited about getting some baddass offroad tires but my piggy bank didnt really seem to strech like I had thought it would so I bought firestone destination a/t's and Im very impressed with them... there not the most aggressive looking like I wanted but they have very deep tread and they wear very well... they would work great for riding powerlines and such better that bfg a/t's imo... and you cant beat the price... I got my 31x10.50s for under 100 a piece I believe...
