thrush muffler?

i actually liked the glass packs on older trucks and such. old chevys and fords with v8 motors. but i dontr think the sound very good at all on anything other than older v8s. i would usually run a flow master or magna flow cat and muffler but cash is tight right now so the least expensive the better. if i dont like the thrush welded then i will go flowmaster with a high flow cat. the cat on my jeep is virtually brand new i ran it for about 2000 miles before turing my jeep into a project so im hoping that it is still ok from sitting.

I've ran thrush turbo welded on two of my xjs (96 4.0 and 97 4.0) both dumped right after the muffler (with stock cat). they do drone a bit but are pretty deep. MUCH louder than stock, and much louder than dynomax. they have set off car alarms when pulling into parking spots or going down a crowded road. could have something to do with it just dumping though. for $30 each at local parts store its worth it for me.

I have to admit I didn't think it was loud. Yesterday I took my doors off for the first time and did some wheeling and boy it was pretty loud.

I still like it it sounds very good down low. If you can dump it through the stock tail pipe I think it would be better.

Just for you, I'm gonna throw some glasspacks on my Ford 390...;)

Go ahead and get you a ten gallon hat and some snakeskin boots......and don't foget the belt buckle the size of a dinner plate! :D

Well, I already got a good sized buckle that says V8...I finally have a vehicle with a V8, so maybe I oughtta start wearing it again...:D

:roflmao: Something tells me you are actually gonna wear it.

you guys are nuts. anyway i ordered the welded from summit. 17651. they threw in a hat and shirt for 8 bucks. total it was 50 bucks. thanks for your input guys. ill post up how i like it when i get it installed. im just going to dump it out of the back of the muffler with a 90.

well got the welded trhush muffler in today from summit. going to weld it in on the weekend so ill post up what i think of it when its on. thanks for all your input guys. ray

the price is what got me. usuallly i pay the muffler shop and its a flowmaster with a magnaflow cat. this time 35 bucks and ill weld it in myself.

Put the cat back in along with the downstream O2 sensor and the light will probably go away. Plus then you'd be legal and not making it so easy for enviros to accuse us of destroying the environment.

Well mine is mainly trail rig so I'm not too concerned bout all that. Less back pressure more hp.

wel i got the muffler put in. i welded it right behind the cat and dumped it with a short 90. i like the way it sounds. feels like good back pressure. thanks for the help. hopefully i can figure out how to post up pics just to show how it went it.

lets see if this works

wow finally after 4 years i figured out how to post pics. nothing fancy just a simple install. the pic is kinda shitty because my camera batteries were dying.

you dont have to run a cat for off road only vehicles. just a muffler or some type of spark arrester. green stickered vehicles dont require them. but if you are driving on the street with no cat illegally then you should fix the problem.
