Thought i'd share the new rig..

I'd also recommend some heat tile on the bottom of the newer style intake, it has alot more surface area(above the header) than that orginal one.

Yeah? How much of an improvement would it make in my intended usage? I wont be sitting at idle or crawling slow on trails and such. Would it benefit me? I do have a few of the WJ insulators in garage and planned to toss one on for S&G's.

So i found my steering box needs work. I can actually see the sector shaft moving a bit with my daughter turning the steering wheel back and forth a touch. Figured i'd be calling NAXJA member OldMan and ordering up one of his rebuilds. Then i found this thread in a search.. what do you guys think, should i attempt this "over center" and "input bearing preload" adjustments they talk about here?

http://www.jeepforum.com/forum/f13/steering-box-adjustments-fix-your-floppy-steering-1164443/

Should i add a lower sector shaft bearing and seal to the job?

Called a buddy and he's not convinced these adjustments are a good idea, said something about the box locking up if not done correctly? I assume that could happen if the over center adjustment was too tight?

Ask Adam (XJLI) about his OldMan experience on here.

I've been debating doing the same adjustment to my '01 Dodge 2500. My father shares the same sentiments that it isn't a good idea, however I've read of too many success stories.

I've read to do the input bearing preload adjustment first. If that doesn't do anything, then do the over center adjustment in 1/8" turn increments at a time.

I might try it in the spring.

I'll PM Adam. I spoke to him (Tom) a few weeks ago i guess and have a customer ordering a box from him for me to install.

Gonna search here for like threads that i linked to, think i'd like to try this before ordering up a rebuild. I remember reading about alot of unhappy people with rebuilds from most parts houses.

I think the adjustments on vehicle might be easier on an XJ vs the ZJ, making removal preferable. If thats the case i should be able to adjust it correctly without trying it in increments.. maybe. I'll need to order up an in/lb torque wrench.

Got a question i'v been meaning to ask..

When i installed the Spidertrax spacers up front (i bought two new unused sets) the lugnuts differed on them. The rears have the studs from shaft fully covered with the provided lugnuts but the front only have stud going through approx 3/4 through.

Is this something to be concerned with?

So i decided to try my luck at rebuilding the steering box myself. Ordered up the Edelmann 8675 rebuild kit for the 96+ box. This one comes without bearings, just all the seals, spacers and orings basically. To get bearings you need to order the 95- kit and use the bearings from that, however the sector shaft bearing has a slight variance in it, a lip that locates the bearing correctly. I was able to find this bearing (INA SLH 12501) on ebay. Once i get that i can start on the rebuild if the weather cooperates..

My best bud decided to part his YJ he bought new after finding some frame rot he wasnt comfortable with so he bought an LJ Rubicon. A year back he had a new Borla muffler replaced under warranty, he threw it at me to use behind the Borla header i picked up from GI-John. Guess i'll look into a stainless catalytic converter.

Tonight i scored a good deal on choice parts from a 93 ZJ with manual trans, bought the pedals/ECU/shifter and boot. Anyone got a wrecked but running V8 ZJ lying around? :)

It sounds like you need a 5.9 and an NV3500/4500 next :firedevil Sadly I don't have any for sale anymore.

Great score on the 5 speed parts. Do you have any pictures of the Jeep it came out of? Curious to see if it was a Laredo or a base model.

Received the sector shaft bearing for my steering box, got lucky and found an NOS 96+ lipped style bearing.

How do i measure a wheel stud properly? From the lip where splines start to end of thread or do i include the button head as well?

Need to add .25 or .50 to the length. This is keepin me up nights..
