The new prez....

I understanding mourning your Party's loss(I'm registered Independent), but I hope that all of you who are so upset about it won't just sit there and whine about it for the next four years. Maybe we can't do anything about who is in the White House, but we can do something to affect the decisions and votes which will be cast in Congress. If your Congressman happens to be from the other side of the aisle as you, he/she still represents YOU. It is YOUR responsibility to let YOUR representatives know where YOU stand.

As am I. However, I'm fairly sure that most of my "representatives" at the various levels all know my name by now - as I write to them on a number of issues.

(Yes, I try to keep the letters short. One page or less - but it's not always easy.)

I do sometimes get replies, but I've not gotten an answer to my closing statement yet - "I am at your disposal for further discussion." It shows that I am making an effort to be reasonable, and that there is probably more to the issue than first thought.

I also find it important that, when you write someone in office and they actually vote your way (whether you wanted them to or not) and let you know, that you acknowledge the fact and thank them for it - when someone works for a pat on the back, it helps to make sure they get the pat.

That is why the Electoral College needs to go bye bye.........the System is in desperate need of reform. While watching the the election going down they announced Obama as President Elect before even Colorado had counted all the votes and there was still other states that had not finished counting when McCain gave his loosing speech. What does that tell you?

Made my vote feel completely useless........... There been times that a President was elected but popular vote didn't reflect that. You notice the candidates go for the key states that have the most Electoral votes and ignore the piddling small states? It needs to be simple numbers, out of a hundred people 51 votes will take the win! .....what do I know huh? :gag:

:D

I feel sorry for the Alaskans - their polls hadn't even closed yet when the announcment was made. I wonder how many people just got out of line and went home once they heard...

Since I've seen it several times in this thread now... it's spelled "losing", not "loosing"! :D

Another reason for us to get rid of the Electoral Vote!

That is cause I have this XXXX weed auto spelling thing turned on and if I do not catch when I post the thread it is mis spelled. See look, it just messed with my misspelled........... eat me :moon:

BTW; you misspelled announcment, it is announcement.........loooooooooooser! :looser: :D

The electoral college cuts both ways -- yeah, last night it made alot of folks west of the Mississsippi feel a bit disenfranchised, that's how it tends to go in a landslide. But, without the electoral college, no candidate will give a rats ass about any small, rural-natured states, but rather focuses all their attention, money, promises and whatnot on major population centers (ala Texas, NY, Cali, Fla, and Illinois) -- Personally, I do not want to see our policies become that "urban"...

the majority have spoken and I'm convinced the majority is a bunch of fawking idgits.

Oh well, life will go on.

Guess im a fawking idgit

That is the way it is now, they concentrate on the major urban population centers because those bigger areas hold the larger Electoral votes......more population, more Representatives in the house, the more Electoral votes........same thing :confused1

In sixteen years and four major elections for a prez I have never felt more ignored "...........WERE DONE!, and the President Elect is......oh you weren't finished? Ah doesn't matter anyway."

I am wondering how Cali got theirs counted and officially posted before Colorado and the Midwest?

BTW; since the Grammar Nazi's are floating around you misspelled Mississippi. :D

They didnt. They basically counted 1% and declared Obama the winner because California is such a liberal state.

yeah, there was absolutly ZERO chance of the left coast not being... well, left!

No, that's a reason to stop the "projections" and wait until ALL polls are closed before talking numbers. The Electoral College still has meaning - unfortunately it meant last night that BO had to focus on only a handful of states to get to the "magic number."

And I didn't vote BO or McCain. The two-party system is flawed.

..........hypothetical question to a soldier. Lets say you had orders to go to residents homes and search confiscating any weapons found from normal everyday citizens, would you follow the orders or disobey?

........I read this somewhere back in the past, years ago, can't find it, but it was a question in a survey to service men and 80% said NO..........

This did happen in New Orleans after Katrina. Law enforcement (local I believe) went door to door disarming people who had a real need to exercise their 2nd amendment rights. There are pictures of guys wrestling a gun away from an old lady in her own door way.

Fawking idiot isn't the deal. We live in a nation of spoiled little brats that think he is going to give us everything for free. IE healthcare and all the other goodies he talks about. Problem is nothing is free and when he give all the poor a taxcut and raises the taxes of those of us that work. I loose the incentive to wark hard. If I can sit on my lazy Ars and get a check from the goverment why should I work hard. If He will just give me some of yours anyway! Plus the rich people that give us all our jobs raises ect already pay 95% of the taxes. And if their taxes go up the they will spend less(IE no eating out no hiring handmen, and all the things that help us "The Little guy" make a living) Then no more new jobs no more raises no more work, then No more free stuff. It's all basic Macro Econ 101. NOTHING IN LIFE IS FREE. I for one don't trust the Government to take over the banking health care or any thing else. They F#ck up everything they do. If you need proof of that just visit you local DMV or try nto find a doctor that medicaid or try to collect unemployment when you can't find a job.

My .02 cents

Hope to keep this the greatest country in the world.

X2 Well said!!! The system is broke and needs repair!! When the system favors the weak and lazy it is doomed to fail....... Does Rome ring a bell!! I am neither Demacrat or Republican and will never choose a side. I will only vote for who I think is best qualified to run this country of ours reguardless of race!! The outcome of any election should only be based on popular vote.....PERIOD!!!

Aw come on, we've all seen just how good the feds are at delivering mail!:roflmao::tears:

And you're right of course, it is fairly simple, but our dumbed-down society seems not to want to hear about issues and how their solved, they want to talk about lipstick on pigs, who was born in panama, or jakarta, and what color the first lady's dress is -- probably nothing a little pain won't solve, and THAT would be change I can believe in. If true constitutional/free-market believer's can't get on a winning ticket next time around after the socialist disaster we are about to experience (with more than a little help from the greenspan-led morons at the fed), we don't deserve to be saved:wantyou::patriot:

The electoral college worked great for Republican's in 2000. Gore had the popular vote by a small margin but Bush won the electoral college and thats what counts. Either way though, Obama won the popular vote and the electoral college. If you're specifically talking about "calling" a state either way early, I as a Democrat, agree with you. But hey, it's free speech right?

What good is a system that strips the value of your vote!! The whole point of voting is to see who is most popular!! The electoral college is a useless addon to the democratic voting process!! :thumbdn:
