I understanding mourning your Party's loss(I'm registered Independent), but I hope that all of you who are so upset about it won't just sit there and whine about it for the next four years. Maybe we can't do anything about who is in the White House, but we can do something to affect the decisions and votes which will be cast in Congress. If your Congressman happens to be from the other side of the aisle as you, he/she still represents YOU. It is YOUR responsibility to let YOUR representatives know where YOU stand.
As am I. However, I'm fairly sure that most of my "representatives" at the various levels all know my name by now - as I write to them on a number of issues.
(Yes, I try to keep the letters short. One page or less - but it's not always easy.)
I do sometimes get replies, but I've not gotten an answer to my closing statement yet - "I am at your disposal for further discussion." It shows that I am making an effort to be reasonable, and that there is probably more to the issue than first thought.
I also find it important that, when you write someone in office and they actually vote your way (whether you wanted them to or not) and let you know, that you acknowledge the fact and thank them for it - when someone works for a pat on the back, it helps to make sure they get the pat.
