THe NAC Lots-O-Tech Thread

Basically HP44 front (lockright, "1-ton" steering, some other crap) XJ 44 rear (superior evo 30-spline, 8.8 discs, UBEs, some other crap) and 4.88s.

If I had chromos up front then my setup would be 100% bulletproof on 35s.

Like mine....:D

The 3 speed transmission on the lawn tractor I've been helping fix had about the same thing going on. The reverse gear is so bound up you can't turn the input shaft with it in reverse without installing the drive pulley and using both hands. I guess 3" of mud and water in the bottom of the case isn't really good for bearings. The gears are also badly pitted, but hey, it's a 5hp tractor that was procured for free, so we've just been running it that way.

Anyone have any suggestions on an OEM style exhaust system for my Briarwood?

I don't want any flowmaster/cherry bomb/loud obnoxious crap. I just want an exhaust that doesn't have a million leaks in it currently.

Edit: And don't anyone tell me to ditch the cat, regaurdless of the fact I don't need to do emissions.

Jegs had a cat-back kit for 100-150 a month or two ago. I'd check if they still have it.

I like the dynomax that I got. I think Ross is running the same in one of his Jeeps and likes it.

I had a cherry bomb with the exhaust dumped out behind the passenger side door for a while and that was quite loud. The Dynomax isn't nearly as loud, very good sounding. Idk if you want strictly OEM or just something that is relatively quiet. But htat would be my vote since it's a nice setup and pretty cheap.

If you do get that one, I would get it for 93+ XJs (or whatever the later option is). From what I heard they are essentially the same except the kit for older XJs comes with the flange to bolt up to the cat but doesn't have the shiny nice exhaust tip. The later model doesn't come with the flange but does have a nicer exhaust tip. My late model kit came with the flange :dunno: So long story short if you get it and need a flange I think I have one kicking around still.

Mind you I can't really vouch for how loud it is while driving. The interior of my rig is completely torn out and I still have a few holes in the floor/rear quarters so the Jeep is very loud in general. Hopefully picking up a new carpet from the JY if I can find one in nice shape this wkend and also hopefully getting the jeep back... will install the interior and let you know.

That's the one. It's around $150 now. Was on sale for $100 until the end of Dec. ($50 mail in rebate).

Dynomax or Magnaflow have a nice sound to them and they aren't so loud that you hear it all the time. (only when you romp on it!)

i have a magnaflow muffler welded into a stock exhaust. it's got just the right amount of tone. any more and it would drone.

and it sounds like poopy too. and i honestly don't think it provides enough backpressure for the 4.0 to be happy.

i had my exhaust torn off my white jeep when it was stock

(cat and all). it had absolutely no balls and all it did was make noise.

my muffler was torn off a few days ago and im runnin with just a cat now and it definately lacks power

i ran mine without a tail pipe for a summer. it was loud and sounded poopy and had no low end torque.

im the only one who will debate that not having my muffler/tail pipe makes a difference, its only louder. the factory 99 resinator and factory cat provide able back pressure on my jeep. ive run black jeep with a couple different mufflers, glasspack, and no muffler. i put a couple tanks thru all setups and found no lose of MPG's or lose of power on the butt-dyno with no muffler.

im a loud obnoctious person, i like a loud obnoctious exhaust note.

.!.:D.!.

If you are looking to go dirt cheap, look at napa exhaust, it is sometimes cheap, sometimes ridiculously expensive. Only problem is around here, its good for 3-4 years and that's it.

That being said, I would go with the dynomax myself.

Mufflers are over-rated if you dont have a skid to protect them then they just get bashed, ripped up and you end up using a sawzall on the trail. I say you just go with straight pipe and call it a day.
