THe NAC Lots-O-BFG KO2 Thread

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-WiFi thread

Just got back from Bantam Heritage Jeep Festival. They broke the world record with 2420 Jeeps in a parade.

There's very little construction on 90, 84, or 81. Wednesday should be cake traffic wise on our way to PA.

I can see this happening in Bill's district, with Bill standing next to it grumbling about how technology is dumb

this is very common with control systems for equipment. they are expensive to replace and if an't broke why fix it. When i was at intel there were some machines older than me and had other machines that ran OS/2, MS DOS, and win 3.1

because when they do break, it will more than likely be without warning and there won't be any replacement parts or any quick fixes available.

This is exactly what happened in my district in one of the buildings until I pushed to get it replaced with a common system among all buildings about 2 years ago. The one that was replaced was from ~1983.

X2. Also prohibitively expensive software and controls. It isn't like going to Best Buy to buy a computer.

You've never been involved in the budgets have you? Haha.
If something works in a school or town outside the big wealthy ones it doesn't get fixed until SHTF.

I work for the state, so yea. I know how it goes.

IT guy: "we want $2 million to replace the hvac control system for 19 schools because it is old and out dated and parts hard to find"

School board: "does it not work at all right now?"

IT: "No it still works and has not given us too many problems but if it does we are screwed?"

SB: "Whats the likelihood of it crashing and whats the backup plan?"

IT: "Unsure never has been a big issue. If it crashes than we can set the thermostats by hand"

SB: "we can talk about this next year"

Fixed for us, but yup, that, rinse and repeat every year.

That's what happened in my building when HVAC service was between contracts. We used to file trouble calls weekly. Setting the t-stat by hand did nothing. Eventually, last winter, me and one other guy took a few things apart and I resorted to opening and closing the hot water feed to the heat exchanger in the drop ceiling when necessary.

They were recently trying to fix the AC and found a pair of vise grips I had holding a valve open. My boss put them on my desk and gave me a dirty look  but that's what they get when they put a bunch of engineers in an uncomfortable space. It's going to get fixed and not the way they want it to.

Good!! Haul ass and get there early and setup. Then we'll go into town to the dive bar and play pool ;)

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-WiFi thread

Sold out already, it seems. It was a good deal.

I bought a 10" bench grinder from a coworker but he had 8" wheels on it. I think I know why- I can't find 10's anywhere locally. McMaster, Grainger, MSC all want at least $60 for 1 wheel. Also, I never knew there was such variety available in bench grinding wheels.

I had an offer get accepted at $625 for it, plus the seller claims to be able to provide a receipt good for redeeming a $200 rebate and free spool gun from Miller. We'll see if it pans out.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-WiFi thread

thats insanely cheap.

Yeah, hopefully it's not a scam, but I'm protected by ebay/paypal/my cc if it is. I don't think anyone out of the group that has ordered has gotten a shipping notification yet. The guy has sold other units in the past year. I think I should be able to get ~$400 or so out of my Miller 135, so if the rebate pans out, this one shouldn't cost me anything additional.
