THe NAC Lots-O-BFG KO2 Thread

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Stove thread

K I'm confused. Cant get a good bead going with the new welder and cant figure out why. It looks decent but is way to fat no matter what settings and doesnt seem like its getting the penetration it should even on full voltage. My dryer outlets a 4 prong 220 with a 30a breaker, the welder has the 3 prong 50a male plug and says 30-180a, had to make an extension cord that adapted the 3 prong to 4 prong and double checked everything. Ran out of gas but had the gas around 20 cfh until I ran out, but after playing with all the settings still couldnt get a nice flat weld, and didnt seem like it was penetrating between the 2 plates. Any ideas?

Is it doing everything else correctly? Like feeding the wire? Only problem I ever have with mine is it likes to get dirty and I need to clean it out sometimes. Also check the consumables and ground and whatever.

Just an assumption here, but what is your wire feed speed set at? In my experiences with the couple of Lincoln welders I've used both MIG and Flux-core I had to slow down the wire speed to get the bead to lay flatter and allow the weld to really burn in. My guess is that the wire feed is set so high that regardless of the voltage setting the weld pool isn't sitting anywhere for long enough to penetrate.

Also, if it's a Mig/flux combo welder, make sure your polarity is set correctly for Mig. I had a friend buy a Miller 180 Autoset for dirt-cheap money off a guy because he couldn't get it to weld right. 5 minutes and a wire polarity swap inside the welder and it was good as new.

does everything else fine and the grounds good so shouldnt be anything to due with the welder itself. Was just using it at my buddies shop the other week with the same settings and wire, only difference is a different bottle with the same mixture and different power source. The polarity should be good since its never really been used for flux but ill double check tomorrow. Tried a couple passes with lower wire speeds but I couldnt even get a good puddle going. Did just a straight line to mess with the voltage and at the lowest it would hardly stick so I know its functioning, but on full blast the line turned into a bunch of dots rather than a solid line. Not porous so didnt think it was a gas problem but idk. Gonna get more gas tomorrow and see if I can figure it out, if I do I'll hopefully have the 3 link done by the end of the weekend.

What an idiot!

Listening to some shitty local band play a horrible STP cover in the middle of nowhere Georgia right now. It's pretty sweet.
