Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread
Not sure if anyone else on here ever has to go to trade shows, but these days are exhausting. I've walked miles inside this stupid convention center at this point, and most of it is generally a waste of time from our perspective. But it's business, and networking, and the things that happen at the restaurants and bars in the evenings and nights after the conference is done are more valuable than the time in the conference itself.
Last night was rough. It was a Brazilian steakhouse with multiple local beers, then a trip to this local blues club afterwards (the Slippery Noodle)...luckily there was always someone higher than me to sign for the tab. And y'all know how I am...and I am not the worst by any means when it comes to corporate nights out. Which surprises me.
Got moving at 7 AM this morning and the German guy I'm with had to be poured out of the taxi last night...he 'made it' to our ride to our first few meetings but I think I finally found his limit. He's a trooper though...
Went to a wood mill today and talked to a guy with the title of "saw filer" for almost 45 minutes...holy hell I didn't know that job existed, let alone what it entailed. The saws this place gets, which are not the largest by any means, are 20' x 12" wide, about $2k eah, and this guy keeps the teeth and the band material in top shape - 0.004" is his target for blade flatness and tooth/kerf deviation. Neat stuff.
Then we went to a place that makes veneers and you wanna talk about tolerance...cutting such thin layers from woods is insane on a mass production scale. I learned a lot about wood today.
Heading down to Kentucky in the morning to visit a stainless steel plant...then a stamping/sheet mill on the way towards Michigan...then a ****load of places in Michigan on Friday. Fun times.
edit: meanwhile there's a box with a ring & pinion set sitting on my porch at home, to be followed by a pair of Eaton E-lockers, and a Holley ECU, and a bunch of other shit...the timing of this trip sucks. Shooting for the Crandon, WI shortcourse race in August as my first event with a shakedown in Harlan, KY in July...
