Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread
The money they make goes straight into keeping te land the NEA has and the land aquisition fund to buy new land so we all have places to wheel. They were saying that last minute sign ups and walk ins last year made a mess out of the planning for food and the number of people per trail. I know it was only my first FC but it certainly seemed like chaos Saturday morning. I'm also surprised the people who plan NACfest don't have a better understanding of how difficult it makes it if no one pre registers. Bill imagine if half of the people who went to NACfest showed up unannounced, it would make your life hell trying to get everything squared away when all you wanted to do was wheel. I think $150 is a little drastic, and I voiced that opinion at the last NEA meeting, but I can also understand why they're doing it. If you guys have any issues with this stuff feel free to volunteer to represent UJ at the next meeting, it would be nice to have you contribute for a change.
Come on Pat you make it sound like none of us do anything if we don't do it for the NEA or UJ. :bunny:
Maybe rather than spouting off all high and mighty you might try not getting completely slaughtered drunk at an event and help out. We/I can't always be the fun police.
I can imagine half the people not registering for an event. Every year we have about 1/3 the people NOT register for NACFest. RocktoberFest was even worse, more than 1/2 the people were unannounced. It's why you have good planning ahead of time. A couple of quick calls and we had some more stuff coming. I think RocktoberFest was handled pretty well in spite of more than doubling our expected numbers.
I've gone to a few NEA meetings a few years ago representing Summit and/or FTR. Stop spouting off like none of us have ever done anything. I've also helped organize NACfest and brought Rocktoberfest up here helping Bob/Liza make some money for F&F instead of 5 of us going down to RC again, including hanging around helping setting everything up and making sure everything got cleaned up/prepped for dinner, etc. Sorry if helping with UJ hasn't been my top priority. Get over yourself.
If half the people showed up unannounced for NACfest, I would make it clear that there may not be any BBQ for them and we can't guarantee camping. It's really not that big of a deal. Want to show up late? Don't get the perks of pre-registering. The reason Bill has made a point of it this year is because we have less than 10 people pre-registered. There's almost no point in a BBQ.
As for the money that goes to the land acquisition fund, I think it has good intentions, and while I haven't researched what a piece of property that we actually WANT costs, I can't imagine we will actually be able to purchase it in any reasonable amount of time. I remember when Gretchen was ready to let go of her land and we would NEVER have been able to afford to keep that if Bob and Liza hadn't hopped into that lease.
As Colin said, it is a lot of backend work to get an event going. Mainly trying to keep funding straight and deal with making sure everyone paid and has a good time.
If it wasn't for Colin/Rob/Travis/Chris the events would not go as smooth. I need to be able to say "Rob do food", "Chris make sure we have the pavilion", "Colin be sure we are booked at the venue", "Travis show up". etc. Once they've got those things sorted I can handle the rest as far as regs, shirts, plagues, raffle, etc. It isn't rocket science but it does take time and someone to stay on top of it.
The issue with NACFest this year is really the shirts and the BBQ. I need to purchase shirts before the event which means I need the cash, I can't front any part of it this year. As Colin said, it isn't worth doing the BBQ if we have only a handful of people. Do I need 5 months to get that together, heck no. Does the cost to us more than double if someone shows up late? No way.
I'm not sure what the land fund does. We donated $500 as NAC

a year ago to it and we didn't even get so much as a Thank You. No call, no email, nothing. Just cashed the check and we never heard anything else.
Never saw any work days anywhere last year, o and we did have a bunch of people show up last minute at rocktoberfest, a simple phone call fixed that sat morning.
Exactly. Not hard when you have someone like Rob plan ahead for all the situations.
