THe NAC Lots-O-BFG KO2 Thread

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

Ken, I saved a bunch of hardware from ax15s when I did my rebuild. They could use to be cleaned up with a wire wheel to get the grime off but they are not rusty. You are welcome to take whatever you can find in my hardware bin.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

I could see the RCV being smoother if you're using it everywhere in the TTB setup.

And if you're restricted to 30 spline then I guess it wouldn't be the weak link anyway?

I don't know, I could be convinced either way, but I've never held a D44 RCV to feel confident enough in it.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

i want to thank the truck drive that wanted to try sky driving when getting on 95S at the rt20 intersection because a) you made everyone late for work and b) you gave me something cool to look at while i was creeping along at 2 mph
that slowed me down for a few miles on i95 north.

Hey guys. Can someone email me some shots of a Jeep factory shifter...the handle, the mechanism below, any shots you have.

Thanks
Rick

auto or manual?

Apparently the most difficult part of my front axle build is finding someone who makes a 30-spline shaft that takes an 806x u-joint.

Lots of people make stub shafts that do that, but no inners, because that never existed anywhere.

Problem with cut & respline is the heat-treat after the fact tends to distort the yokes - the u-joint bores are typically finished after heat treat to make sure all the dimensions stay concentric with the splines. (per Branik)

Irritating. So 760x at the wheel and 30-spline stubs, or 44-size RCV all the way around.
Colin is right, dodge used 30 (might be 32, but pretty sure it's 30) spline crap in the 94-?? balljoint front 60s. Unsure if 3/4 vs 1 ton matters.

what about Super Duty D50? They run 30 spline inners and 806 u joints
Has that goofy middle ujoint setup on the long side but he is putting it in a TTB, after all...

That would kick ass. It's either that or get them at the junkyard, which I'm not looking forward to.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

RCV makes a sexy setup for TTB already. It would be easy to use that all the way around, and I sorta plan on using one for the middle joint anyway.

With the diff converted to 30-spline, it makes the passenger side stub dimensionally identical to a 44 stub, which is what that RCV one is, and it has the provision for the internal C-clip to hold it in the diff as well. So that's an easy off the shelf thing. Kinda neat that the stubs are drilled for a grease fitting on the end to lube the CV; sure beats trying to get a needle fitting into the boot.

Same on the other side, however at the steering joints is where my problem lies.

- Continue with the same RCV stuff all the way out
- - use 30-spline stubs and drive flanges / Branik unit bearings
- - use 35-spline stubs with Spidertrax bearings (mo betta)

- Have RCV build a double splined shaft that goes from 30 spline to 35, and then mount 806x yokes from CTM or spidertrax. Then outers become a standard unit bearing stub.

I don't know what the price difference is between the two options. I'm thinkin by the time the double-spline shafts are made plus all the Spidertrax stuff it's probably not much different.

Learn to read ken!! I said superduty, no TTB shit in them only solid front axles.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

Honestly, I'd do whichever setup is going to give the easiest serviceability and best strength in the wheel bearing area.

If Spidertrax makes the best one, go 35 spline and be done with it.

I don't see you hurting 30 spline 300M stuff with 200HP on 35s, but you never know.

I completely forgot superduty F250s don't have TTBs :dunce:

Would probably do 35-spline 4340.

Stan @ Branik will be the first one to tell you that the Spidertrax ultimate bearings are wayyy better than any of the modified F450 ones people are selling (including Branik). Leaning towards RCV at the middle and 806 on the outside right now.

Current dilemma is wondering if the C-clip that holds the passenger stub into the diff is the same as on a regular Dana 35 rear axle. Because I'll still need to use that with the RCV and if it's not the same then the aftermarket lockers are going to be difficult to accomodate...

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

I bought a 96 xj to part out today. Picking it up next week :greensmok

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

so I start my first union job tomorrow. erecting scaffolds at metlife stadium. they said its going to be heavy lifting all day. just when I was getting used to being fat and lazy.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

Wait, it's a union job and you don't get to be fat and lazy?

I don't know what to believe anymore.

That's dumb. I started a new job on friday and all i do is throw around plastic bumpers

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

I wish.. unfortunately these are plastic car bumpers. I got roped in to running the parts dept at an autobody shop
