THe NAC Lots-O-BFG KO2 Thread

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

I would have thought the heater core on my Dodge would blow.

I did it in about 3 hours, never having done one before.

Basically you end up hanging half of the dash, cutting out the old heater core, and the new ones come with swivel fittings so you can rotate the thing into place with like 10" of room between the dash and firewall.

I actually kind of enjoyed it

Want to do one on my ZJ then? The 5 speed seems to be blowing some interesting smelling smoke into the interior the past couple days, although it seems to have cleared up some.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

That was the first sign of mine going. I would smell coolant when I turned on the heat, it would fog up the inside of the window for the first 5 minutes, and finally I got a few drips of coolant coming out of the bottom vent. I think I did it that coming weekend and it luckily never blew out completely.

And no thanks, I'll pass

I don't remember it doing this last winter, but then it sat for 6 months while it wasn't running right, so I can't imagine that helped.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

its all nuts and bolts.

dundy what did u get for a truck?

'02 GMC Sierra 2500HD Standard Cab Long Bed w/ LQ4 (6.0L) and NV4500.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

Bullshit. Every jackass on the planet thinks they're throwing a tune at a 100k mile junkyard motor and ending up with "450 reliable horsepower". And you're not putting a $1000 trans behind that motor and expecting it to be reliable either.

TR tried both of those things the way the internet tells you to, and ended up with sub-300 HP at the rear wheels and 5 transmissions last season. (oh right, and that 100k mile junkyard motor threw a rod too and got replaced with another one)

So if your advantage is "price"...well...that's not really an advantage, unless Sunday cruising is your goal. I wouldn't be building a fast car to sit and look at it.

I missed this post yesterday.

I remember you guys talking about Tim's issues. Was it all just a case of bad luck/bad trans builder? I seem to remember almost every race I was at last year he was having trans issues (losing 2nd gear or something?).

Is he still having issues with his? Was the original an LQ9 and this an LQ4? Can't remember.

Either way, yeah, people throw numbers around like it's nothing online. 500 HP? EASY. Throw a CAM and TUNE at that 6.0 and it's a RACECAR.

I'll just continue using my archaic push-rod boat anchor and make a reliable 450 HP.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

The problem with Tim's transmissions was the fact that they all had pans. Pan delete kit= good to go.

It's physics. Don't argue it.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

Sam, have you thought about buying that LQ4/NV4500 Chevy 2500 on the trading post? Say buy the truck for $2500, and make at least $1500 maybe $2000 parting/scraping it and end up with a bolt in 4500 with any extra pieces you need.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

Ugh, guy on the trading post wants to trade some universal twin turbos and stuff for some of my old SBC parts. Twin turbo LS1? Pretty sure I'll destroy my T56 but it would have bling and boost factors.

He has literally been trying to trade that for everything else listed on the trading post. I bet its all chinesium bullshit.

3rd and 4th gear grinding on the big money piece is a bit of a turn off for a $3000 parts truck.

I love telling Ross to shut up on Facebook.

As opposed to a push-rod boat anchor LQ?

The engine in Tim's runs fine now, I think he's eventually gonna tear the busted one down to build something more badass. The trans was a string of issues, never the same thing twice...friggin headache that thing. Pretty awesome to make a change of plans from nut & bolting the rig right before leaving KOH to dropping the trans (again) and making a midnight run out to the trans builder. I think it's been better behaved the last few races though.

So it looks like I'll be working with Tim @ LII on my front axles...since I need to cut & turn them anyway for camber correction, the tentative plan now is to extend them a little at the same time and fabricate new inner C's and knuckles. I have a set of D50 TTB beams, and the tapered balljoint seat on the inner C is a solid machined piece that's welded into the beam, so it'll be easy enough to extract those and build them into new inner C's. So the knuckles will be built around D50 geometry & balljoints (which are pretty hefty components) and set up to take the F450/Spidertrax unit bearings and brake stuff. Also means that I can build on double-shear tie rod connections that are at the perfect height for the rest of the steering geometry, and also extended a little to get more/faster travel out of the existing pitman arm.

Sooo...until that's figured out, I'm gonna start working on the rest of the car. Plenty of other shit to do. :D

Are they weaker then the viper t56's?

Mine doesn't even have roller lifters or fancy reverse flow cooling. Hell it only has 2 bolt mains. Shit is ANCIENT.

Sweet deal. He was already fast as shit with the junkyard motor.

sounds expensive.
