IMO they also built them that way because they knew people would buy it simply so they would have to put less time/money into modding them for larger tires.
30 equipped TJ = swap axles, lift, tires, blah blah blah
44 equipped TJ = lift, tires, done
Probably also reduced warranty claims.
When you think about it a dana 44 center section (especially the TJ ones - weren't they 30 spline inners and the same d30 knuckles and outers and unit bearings and axle tubes?) really doesn't cost that much more than a 30 to build, it's maybe a couple pounds more cast steel for the housing, a different stamped cover, somewhat larger gear blanks and carrier, etc. The only real difference is the inventory cost of keeping the parts on the shelves for an options package that doesn't sell in very large quantities.

Thought I was gonna be able to reuse a set of the metal shelves in the garage. Took all the shit off of it, it was rotted through on the bottom :laugh: Figures. This dude was a hoarder.
Just about done cleaning out the basement/garage. I think one more trip to the dump on Thursday should do it. Then I can get the rest of my shit up here and figure out how to organize the garage.
I was debating painting the floor/walls with some light gray home depot garage epoxy or some shit. Not sure yet.

Concrete paint. I wouldn't do it this week with the cold but when it get above freezing you should be fine.

If you wait, and get as much as a little oil spot on the ground, forget it, the paint will never hold. Doesn't take kindly to weld spatter either. What's the concrete finish like now?

The concrete on the floors has some oil stains and whatnot. I added to it with some brake fluid when I was running the lines in my truck :laugh: Walls are fine, no staining.
I don't know, I read some stuff on garagejournal and some people had luck on old ass floors with stains, just using some acid wash stuff and whatnot. They said it had been holding up 5+ years of oil/gear oil/welding shit.
I just want it as bright as possible in there.

I couldn't find any floor coating product that had consistent good reviews from everyone who tried it. Maybe a matter of prep, I dunno, but with a nice float finish my floor is pretty bright and cleans up easily so I chose to spend the money elsewhere.
For the size of your space, with block walls in good shape I'd probably fur it out and do drywall backed with plywood so that you can have a nice bright & smooth surface that you can hang shelving and stuff from anywhere. Keep that floor space open.

There's basically two bulb sockets and one shitty hanging flourescent. Basically dark as shit all the time.
That would be pretty easy to do and not a bad idea. I just want to keep as much open space as possible since my MJ is barely going to fit in one bay (width-wise) with the other bay having to share space with some outdoor equipment (mower, snowblower, shovels, etc.) since we don't have a shed.
I'll try to remember to take pics this weekend once I finish cleaning it all out.

Opinions needed...
I ordered 2 Spicer 1310x (Non-Greasable) ujoints to rebuild my front driveshaft CV joint.
They sent me 2 1310-1X joints with the grease fitting into one of the bearing caps.
From what i see the ones they sent me are almost twice as expensive.
Should i be worried about the zerk fittings sticking out on that end of the driveshaft? It's pretty much protected from rocks by the crossmember.
Should I call them up and have them sent me the non-greasable ones or stick with these??

Those are fine.
I wouldn't worry about hitting that area on rocks at all. Even in the chance that a rock DID hit JUST that (don't know how it could), it would just break the fitting off. Big deal.
