Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

dude on the trading post got so butthurt over getting called out for shitty welds

Yea what happened to him he dissapeared after I told him he should be selling his welder not the jeep. And coming from me that's bad plus I'm drunk.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

They're the alloy taps at least, not carbon. For the amount I'll use them I'll take the chance. Not gonna be using them for thick shit

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

How's that drill press? been meaning to pick up something cheapish just to have

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

70 bucks for an 8 inch HF vs 130 for this 10 inch... http://www.homedepot.com/p/Ryobi-10-in-Drill-Press-DP102L/100490179#

I have that drill press, it's been from mass to indiana, use it all the time, been beating on it for years. It'll put a 2" holesaw through 1/4 plate if you don't mind chattering your way through and I stuffed a 1" holesaw through 4 pieces of 1" plate a few years back.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

Getting a broken tap out SUCKS. I think Snap-On, Matxo etc make a special tool to remove them, but I bet it still isn't fun.
If it's something that absolutely cannot be screwed up, ram edm is the most effective way to do it. Hammer + pointy punch to shatter the tap works well, or there's the pronged tools to try to spin the tap out that you mentioned. Personally, I prefer plunging an end mill + helicoil or Keensert if there is enough wall thickness.

I've been using a chinese set of taps cheaper than the harbor freight set for like 5 years.
You got lucky. Did you get them at WT tool before they moved?

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

XJLI,

I should be at the pizzafest tomorrow. Weather forecast just changed and there is no longer snow in the forecast so i doubt i'll get stuck at working plowing. Might be slightly late but i should show.

If you can bring that tranny for me, it would be awesome.

I'll PM you my number. Shoot me a text and i'll let you know for sure tomorrow if i'll be there.

I'll be there, Ross is (should be) bringing the trans. It's a complete tranny I just need the valve body so we can pull it out in the parking lot or at sams house 10 mins away

I will have my usual 100lb bag of every tool needed to work on every jeep ever with me.

Nope, amazon. They were the cheapest taps I could find and didn't give a shit at the time and they keep working. I have better taps but I end up always using the chinese ones. I've used good taps and all I notice is how much better they cut, so nicer to cut with but they still break if you're not careful. I wouldn't worry AT ALL about a HF set. Most people don't use taps under a 1/4" for what we do on jeeps so big ****ing deal. You're tapping by hand too so just feel it out. They're cheap taps that won't get used much probably, nothing to worry about.

100% how I feel.

Never broken a tap on a jeep. Like I said, if you know how to tap you'll be fine.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

Even I can operate a tap without breaking it, anybody should be able too.

So I'll toss the AW4 in my truck for Adam/King Kong and the welder for Ken. Anybody else I'm missing?
