I put a brand new hub on the jeep yesterday, and took it for a ride around the block. Something didn't feel right so I pulled back into the driveway. Then it broke in half.

Did it actually break or did the inner bearing cone just come off the splined hub? That happens if you abuse them too much pulling them with no axle nut in place... in fact I've had exactly that happen to me.

I never once hit it with a hammer and there was an axle shaft installed

I just went to Walmart to get oil/filter and changed them in the Jeep. And then went into my shop only to find a jug of new oil and a filter sitting on the shelf.
