THe NAC Lots-O-BFG KO2 Thread

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

Used alternator of unknown condition.

Power also starts dropping on the gauge when I start using wipers, blower motor, lights, etc.

bust out the Oscope and check to see if you flux-capacitor is producing enough calories, it is is make somewhere between .7 and 1500 the alternador needs a new hydro-pneumatic combuster.

gee, it's too bad you don't have such a piece of equipment handy, isn't it? I only have six in this room

one of them is so far up my butt that carmelo is jealous

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

If I don't pay the cable bill I can get 42's next thurs

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

I'd be leaving in the morning and back home by 8 PM, nbd.

Although I think the guy who put me in this position might have, um, 'misrepresented' what we can actually do for this customer. So I gotta find out what he actually told them first before I commit to this and end up looking like an ass when I get there.

I still need to figure out what I'm doing for the uppers...I have inserts for 1" ID tube. 1.5" x .25 seems big; Tim @ LII uses 1.75 x .120 for his but that doesn't work with my inserts and also seems like a large OD for my application. McMaster has 1.375 x .188 in stock which seems kinds OK.

I also have some different ideas for how I want to do the cage...if I have time I'll post that for discussion later.

You using regular old DOM for the uppers? Or going with aluminum?

If DOM, I'd probably drop down to the 1.375 x .188. You're not putting down crazy power, your rig is going to be light, not getting hit by rocks, etc..

Post 'em up. I'm curious how you're going to do it after what you briefly told me.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

today is boring and slow. i applied for a sweet job over at a college near me, dumb thing about state colleges is that you have to wait however long the posting is until you hear anything.. if you even hear anything.

So then solve my problem over the internets! Thoughts? You are an electrical engineer (allegedly).

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

If I had to guess, either a dirty or loose connection on the B+ terminal or the brushes for the field winding in the alternator are worn/dirty. Could be wrong though.

A few minutes with a meter should figure it out.

In other words if you don't feel like opening it up to clean it out and check all the connections just throw it out and buy a new one.

I've lost hope in the job market. I've applied for so many jobs I've lost count, and get nothing but rejection emails.

i'll be going back to school when I get married though, then I can get financial aid based on briana and i's debt to income, not through our parents. i'll most likely be looking into an online school as i'm way too busy for a traditional brick and mortar school again, anyone have any experience or suggestions in this area?

Which is the B+ terminal? Back of the alternator with the 4 or 6 gauge wire going to it?

Also, I have no meter, and if I did, I'd have next to no idea how to use it. Electrical retardation is one of my specialties. That's why I was asking about the oscillioscope when we were at your house the other day.

I've never heard great things about online courses and can't imagine how much you can learn from them is a lot. What kind of respectable degree can you get online anyway? Supplementing some online courses in is one thing but I don't know about a 100% online degree.

The last dude I trained had a degree from University of Phoenix, but he had a shit-ton of relevant experience and seemed like he must've been relatively bright prior to any higher education.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

I already have 2 associates, would just be looking to get a bachelors. would be a business degree, so not a lot of hands on learning is necessary. anyhow, I feel experience is just as important, if not more than what you learn in school. and employers just want to see that you have a degree, doesn't matter, or mean, that you actually learned anything.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

all you people keep saying you want to go back to school to get a bachelors... i wouldnt. plenty of people out there with educations out of the asshole cant get jobs.

trades. trades. trades. seriously. my stepdad is a GC and he sends me pics of the beads union welders our age are laying down and it makes him (and me) sick that theyre making like 80k a year. plumbers make good cash money too. dont think about it like you dont want to be working on your back til youre 50, none of us are idiots. work hard for a few years, work your way up and youll be sitting pretty in clean clothes telling other people on job sites what to do be the time you feel like youre "too old for this shit." then retire with the bad ass pension you have.

Not to be a dick, since I don't know, but how much is a business degree worth? I ask that in all seriousness. I know a chick that has a bachelors in business from a half decent school, she works for Petco right now and makes less than I do. Not that that is common, I don't know. I'm willing to bet that business experience like Dave said is probably more worthwhile. Degrees just don't seem like that big of a deal to me. Having two associate's degrees I think says that you're not dumb already.

Unless you have something specific in mind that you know will require it.

Exactly.
Not everyone needs a college degree. It's why, and I've said it before, you need a "degree" now to flip burgers and ask "Do you want fries with that?"

I wouldn't mind learning a trade, just not sure what. I have no idea wtf I want to do.

all I know is that over 50% of the jobs that I apply for list a bachelors degree as a requirement. any sort of management position, or higher position in a company requires a bachelors. I could always get into an entry level position, and work my way up. but haven't had much luck finding any openings in that either. for every job posting theres hundreds of people applying for one position.

My girlfriends dad makes damn good money as a carpenter. Learn a niche language or something and take up a trade. My girlfriend's dad is one of two people that advertise in the korean paper and korean's will meet him and be like that's you? Like he's one of the couple of carpenters that exist in the area. His brother was a carpenter in North Carolina. Made friends with a hispanic guy and ended up not even lifting a hammer, went golfing everyday and has made multiple millions of dollars.

Korean is a good language to learn now that I think of it. A lot of koreans have a lot of money, yet, are 100% korean over here. Prefer to stay in their korean world. Use korean businesses, korean supermarkets, korean everything.

Electrician is a pretty sweet gig from what I've seen. I've worked with electricians, plumbers, carpenters and all that and the job of the electrician seems like the best. Cleaner, still get to work with your hands, cool tools. It's usually just finishing work. I see the electrician come in a lot just to put in some light fixtures or change out some outlets or something.

Shit like masonry and roofing and whatnot, I'm good. It's fine for a couple days then I want to kill myself.
