Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

so all of our work vans that we bought used from TWC came with this generator thing in the back of them.

most of the guys just took them out and threw them away because if anything hit the terminals it would essentially explode. like if you stick a screwdriver in a live outlet.

so what Im getting at is there is one left in one of the junk vans, and I was wondering if anyone knew from the second pic if it was worth taking and installing it in my jeep.

I just want to charge my impact gun batts and maybe power a small work light, you know just in case were wrenching on the trail late into the night. cough.. Travis.. cough

I'd keep it around for wheeling events. Let people get drunk and piss in it for everyone's entertainment.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

Considering going with RCV's in the 44. I plan to run these axles on 35's to 37's for a while, and I'm going to go to an ARB eventually. How stupid do you guys think that is? Consider that it's ~$400 to replace the one that's broken now, and will be pretty close to that to do the driver's side when it breaks, which will bring me well past half of what the RCV's are, and obviously won't hold up. RCV's also get me upgraded hub internals, which should 'eliminate' another weak link.

I know what you're going to say, go 60's it's cheaper and stronger, but I'd really like to keep whatever I wheel street legal, and like I said, I don't plan on anything more than 37's with these axles. If I went bigger, it would be on tons and a trailer queen, but I would keep these axles in a streetable rig.

Just go with a 30spline d60. Iv got a locker ill give you a hell of a deal on.

If you do rcvs then what becomes your next weak link? The R&P? D shaft u joint? Id hate to blow up a R&P on the trail.

And why wont it street legal if you swap a 60? Too wide? Have bRoss narrow it for you.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

you can do tons and streetable. Mine was before I got the red labels/cut the roof off...

Bob (RoyalXJ) used to break 44 RCV's like nothing on lame old school 37" MTR's. I think he broke like 3 of them. For the price of front 60's around here, Id pick one up and build it. You could always use most off 44 and build a 44/60 hybrid with 60 outers. Or narrow the 60 and run that. Isnt too hard to run 5x5.5 hubs and I believe you could reuse most of your brake parts. You could pick up the D50 Bump has outta the Excurision he parting out, thats all 60 stuff from the center section out. Plenty of parts available to convert it to your lug pattern. Theres nothing to difficult about keeping it street legal just because it has a 60 front.

Bobs issues were defects, not bc he was hard on em. Pat did you blow a chromo shaft or a stock one?

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

Pat don't waste your money on d4 rcv's seen to many of them break, ask travis about the setup he had in his 44 it was pretty badass

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

He'll blow whatever shaft you put in front of him.

normally id laugh and agree with you, but im still mad at you for not coming on sunday.

pat, give me a call tomorrow. looks like im buying more big boy axles soon, ill build you a cool hybrid axle for cheap.

Next time, had some party to go to Saturday night.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

I blew a 'Yukon' (Randy's listed is as USA Gear, but it came with a Yukon tag on it) chromo, but didn't buy the warranty. If I stick with Ujoint style shafts, I'll just get another set of Yukon's, pay for the warranty, then send the broken ones back in a month, boom spare set of chromo's.

I'm not saying that running a 60 front automatically means it isn't street legal, but it's overkill for 35's, and I'm more than happy to stay on those for now. I also don't want to do everything I just did all over again, I want to wheel and not be worried about it. My best bet is to probably just run another set of Yukon's, and back off of the skinny pedal a little bit to keep shit alive. Who knows maybe it was a defective shaft or something weird that caused the failure. Actually, it was probably me being an idiot.

As far as hybrid axles, I wish I had seen the Jana 54 shit before I built this, I would have definitely run D50 gears and an ARB from the start, which would have made the RCV's a more viable option. The only other hybrid I would build would be a 609 with a RS housing, Mega's etc etc but **** spending that much cash on an axle anytime soon.
