THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

"driving it and being careful" is great till it finally locks up and suddenly the ass end of your jeep is sliding and wants to pass the front end.

Should I pull the cover? I have to get to work on tues and wens idk how to manage.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

Im not sure whats wrong with your axle. I missed the first bit but maybe
pull the rear drive shaft maybe and drive it in front wheel drive?

I did that when my pinion bearing finely got so loud I couldn't stand it anymore. worked for a few months

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

With a 95 or earlier that's gonna spray transfer case fluid everywhere, unfortunately.

I dunno that I'd pull the cover, you might not like what you see.

good point. oh well. I tried

maybe open it up and pull the ring gear off? or spiders out. probably not worth it.

I apologize to all for not being in attendance at Colin's. But what I did instead was better :D

I dunno. Sketches me a bit. I'll drive it tomorrrow for a short trip of its that bad I won't do it.
Let's see Dana 35
Bent shaft pinion is loose and I'm driving like a lil ol lady.

How's removing the driveshaft gonna stop everything from moving, and how you gonna keep the shafts in by removing the spiders

Soda bottle and elec. Tape, but the real fix here is not to drive the ****ing thing, do you really wanna risk your life and the lives of others

:wow: Ok man I will figure out how to get to work some other way. You could pull the gears off the cross pin like my current 8.25 is. :(

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

If I really had to run it, I would put it in 4x4, take the ring gear off the 35, and remove the spiders. Obviously reinstall the cross shaft and side gears + c clips.

Be very gentle on it, 100% torque to the front end is going to make it handle a little funny and if you romp on it can wear the transfer case a bit faster I would think.

I just tried putting it in 4 full time and it was a lot quiter :bs: getting u bolts and such tomorrow

I have the tools to make new lines but will my lines for the Dana 35 just swap into the 8.25?

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

do not take the ring gear off and run it. nothing will oil the pinion and itll run dry and sieze up. if youre in a pinch, pull the, rear d-shaft and ring gear and put it in 4hi. slip a ziplock bag or something over the rear t-case output and zip tie it to trap the fluid. you can run it for awhile but you probly have to refill the t-case after it looses enough atf into the bag. dont run the rear end dry either, itll smoke the outer wheel bearings

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

... it's a low pinion axle. It'll have oil on the pinion unless something goes badly wrong, or the pinion is pointed WAY up.

A high pinion diff? Yeah, you'd never get any oil to the pinion bearings that way.

an un-rotated low pinion axle will have the pinion dipping in the gear oil...

Thanks guys this is helpful, im scared of whats in it. I dunno about pulling the cover -.-

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

the pinion head may be in the oil, but without the ring gear it wont be throwing the oil up to the bearings and it probably will run the outer pinion bearing dry

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

**** you herman. That is all :)

Carmelo, ill call you tomorrow night. No reason i wont be picking it up if he can wait a day or two. It'd be much appreciated. If necessary i can skip work Tuesday to come down maybe.
