Hmm, should I even consider a full float kit for a rear XJ 44 if its missing a spindle and a lockout? I've always kind of wanted to do a full float rear 44.
The logical answer is no, my current axle shaft configuration is more than fine.

so... the internets are telling me not to simply run bolts for my highsteer arms.
the arms i have are originally intended for bolts, not studs with a 60 degree conical nut to help prevent loosening.
its another 56 bucks, plus a countersink to do it the "best" way.
i think 56 bucks plus a new tool is worth the peace of mind and my safety.
I guess i have one question. How many people are running around with highsteer arms simply bolted down without issue?

pretty much made up my mind.im not gonna cheap out on something like this. if it breaks at the wrong time life would suck. and if i snap bolts on the traik im gonnb be pissed at myself for not spending the 60 bucks. calling ecgs tomorrow for the studs and nuts then going to the local drill shop for a countersink.

Me, with the same 4 bolts for 5 years. Carried 4 spares around the entire time and all they did was get corroded in my toolbag.
They were strong enough to bend the shit outta my sector shaft, destroy my steering box mount, rip my trackbar brace in half, etc. You know how I drove that thing.

i have conical washer things on mine. but they came that way. and my front axle is 16 less than yours. also, sitting in my jeep this morning on the way to work, yea my harness bar is a bit high. oh well, i'll make it work.

My experience doesn't count.
I have 6 bolts and 2 keys.
And I've only wheeled one season on it.
I'd probably just run the bolts, especially if you won't have a ram on it (like Chris). If you do plan on full high steer with a ram, I'd get studs.

So Bill, remember when I was asking about the +/- off nominal numbering on the pinion head? Well both gearsets are Richmond 4.10s so they are both stamped.
Old one: 2.766"
New one: 2.765"
I'm just throwing the old shim pack in tonight to see what their pattern looked like :laugh:

While my leafs are all apart right now, should I bother trying to get leaf liner stuff for them? Maybe just graphite paint? Where do I find that, is it in a spray can? Local hardware store? Spring shop? Should I not care and just reassemble the packs?

I didn't add anything to my MJ packs.
I'm pulling ~10" of travel out of them.
I wouldn't worry about it. You have enough weight being thrown around the leaves are going to be forced to flex.
