Why do people always introduce a new car into saving gas? My Civic was a '00 and it ran MINT. I put a set of tires and did the front brakes on it. And it had ~200K on it. 32 mpg no matter how you drove it.

My cherokee's engine did a full 180 from what it was doing before. Used to run fine up until 3 grand, now it runs like shit at anything under 3 grand, which is fine. I have to drop it down a gear on the highway and keep it at 75 and it runs mint. When in traffic it's kind of gay because I have to floor it between every stop and go. I'll just keep this way, probably.

No it is not. But it gets to a point where all this money and time will be invested, and it will not yield me anything in terms of fun. I went wheeling once last year. All the time and money isn't as easy to swallow if I'm not going to use it for what I built it for. The hassle of living over an hour away from it is not ideal either.

Yes, after a while all the time and money invested in scuba could net me monetary gain. (No lie). And the scuba stuff is a lot less money, doesn't require me to constantly be alone in the garage working on stuff to get ready, and I feel is more social and relaxing at the moment.

No reason to overcomplicate/build shit if you can't afford it and can't enjoy it.

Plenty of people drop out because they spend a stupid amount of money building something just to build it, then don't get to enjoy it and feel like they wasted money, then part out/sell it and regret it only to come back and do it all over again.

I agree, and I've said in the past I don't get why everyone is always trying to go bigger and bigger and get their Jeeps to trailer queen status.

With that said, what you just said is why I'm not jumping into building another jeep. I already have the axles (which I haven't needed to modify or upgrade in years), the transfercase, and the stock drivetrain, etc. That is also why I'm keeping all the parts I want from my current Jeep. I'm not going to sell them only to have to redo all the work I've already done. They will sit in my garage or basement until I need them.

So, its not that I can't afford them (I already have the big ticket items, and at the moment I should be saving money, the real world sucks), its that I can't afford the necessary time to enjoy them. No point in me being antisocial alone in my garage working on something that will give me one day a year of physical social gathering. That is why I'm focusing on scuba more this year: I enjoy it and it doesn't require me to do all this preparatory work to go enjoy myself.

I enjoy the fact that my jeep costs a fraction of what anyone's "affordable daily driver" costs them and MY affordable daily driver didn't cost anything. Could care less if I have to hit the rev limiter on the highway to keep moving and I keep setting my trail rig on fire, i'm a XXXXing bad ass.
