THe NAC Lots-O-BFG KO2 Thread

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

Good luck Rob.

So I was thinking today, it really sucks that gas is so expensive and all the wheeling is so far away and is quite inconvenient with not having my Jeep near me. (theoretically if I had a built/wheeling rig). With gas only expecting to go up, and not having tons of time to do a lot, it really isn't financially responsible or even convenient for me to continue with Jeeps.

But I can't stop thinking about dumping all this time and money into modifying them with most of my free time. Its too bad that motivation dies the moment I get home to try to work on the damn things. And don't worry, I'm not giving up on Jeeps yet.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

no matter how many times i do it parting out a jeep i built and had a blast in for a mere couple years upsets me.
my shoulders here if you need it bud ;)
I ignored the bolt strength numbers when installing mine. I just put a bolt where it fit. Works.
i like this way
How/where did you guys get your jobs? Should be doing something different than scouring job websites and sending my resume and a cover letter to any position I like and/or qualify for? I have never gotten a reply from sending out job apps.. Ever. Even the gig I have now I got because I knew somebody.
the only jobs that ever respond to me are jobs that i dont want. i've had a couple companies repeatedly call and email me asking to set up an interview. these jobs either have terrible reviews and extremely high turnover, or they are for less money that i'm making now. seems like you have to know somebody to get in somewhere.
Good luck Rob.

driving my jeep is depressing, i can almost watch the needle move as i apply the gas pedal. if its above 40 degrees, you can bet your ass i'm driving the bike. 50 MPG for the win.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

Last night was a low low night for my relationship with my Xj. I use the tractor to push it in the garage due to trans line failure. take the line off, see it's just the fitting ok cool replace said fitting.. have it PUKE fluid everywhere still. get pissed. Lay there under my jeep. Look around... oh cool missing a starter bolt... oh cool inspection plate cover on my trans housing is cracked and just chillin there... Oh cool my powersteering pump is just leaking on it's own now. oh cool ballistic joint is WICKED XXXXING LOOSE AGAIN.

If someone came by with a little bit of cash last night I would of sold the pile right there.

however, today did searching on teh interwebz. Replacing pressure line with powersteeing/transmission oil cooler line, and barb fittings. :D no more quick clips. but still my 2 month old powersteering pump seems to be pissed. It keeps getting tons of air in it. Why? who knows. All i do know is I kinda hate that thing right now

good luck rob!

its not financial responsible to do anything fun. is the time and money you invest in scuba diving going to net you monetary gain? because i've been feeling like garbage with work (and therefore, money) i think about all the cash i invested into my jeep, and how much time i'll actually be wheeling... its an infinite loop of shit, so i eventually just stop thinking about it. i know people get all crazy when someone says theyre "entitled" to something, but i'm not getting the money or respect (i mean, i've been doing sysadmin work for almost a year.. but i'm titled as a bottom of the barrel IT monkey...) that i feel i deserve. a job that i enjoy, hell wouldn't mind, with a few more bucks an hour would eliminate all of that stress.

seems like you have to know somebody to get in somewhere.

yeaup.

ballistic

thats your problem

its shot, or a seal is bad. you have assist right? dont even bother XXXXing with it and just buy the PSC one.

Yea I has assist. I know I should go with PSC, but then I should do an external resi for it too, so like 300 later. I dunno. Begster has a good point. If I could sell this for 4-5g's sell my vw then just get a 2003-2004 golf TDI and just return to jeeps at a later point. Build a buggy when I financially can or something

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

I'll be the dick.

Stop getting carried away with modifications if you "can't" afford them.

Sam has been wheeling on the same set of axles for how many years?

Never had assist, completely stock drivetrain, stock driveshafts, etc.

No reason to overcomplicate/build shit if you can't afford it and can't enjoy it.

Plenty of people drop out because they spend a stupid amount of money building something just to build it, then don't get to enjoy it and feel like they wasted money, then part out/sell it and regret it only to come back and do it all over again.

this. you'll never make up the money you put into it. the jeep isnt costing you money to keep, just stop driving it. yes, i worry about money but im not hurting for cash, i just wish i had some more. sure, i can part out my jeep and make maybe $8-10k if i'm lucky.. but then i'm throwing away all my time that i've spent on it... which was a LOT of sweat and tears. and then i'll back with another rig in a year anyway, and then what? start all over and then its a HUGE waste. i'm pretty much done with big money items for a while, the rest is just time and small things. and truthfully? it makes me happy as shit to drive and wheel, knowing i burned this link mount on. that i bolted this part on. that i spent hours at night in the rain under a popup canopy and slung my 44 under the jeep by myself.

colin has a point with sam's jeeps. he's put his drivetrain through 3 rigs and over 100k combined miles. i just rolled 100k on my cherokee which is fully stiffened and soon to be fully caged with overbuilt axles and 35s. as long as i dont barrel roll this thing at speed, i dont see any reasons why i wont be wheeling this jeep when i'm 30.

I don't feel like it's money wasted at all. Been wheeling with that jeep for 2 years now and no complaints. I dunno if my interest is in it like it use to however. but I get what your saying completely.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

That wasn't directed towards you Eric.

Just something I've noticed in general.

haha ohhh ok I was a little confused. I've got like maybe 3k in my jeep with everything on her now. including new engine. I can't say a thing about having to much money in it :D

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

Oh and I agree it's completely not financially responsible.

I have $10k+ into my MJ. Easily.

And it's a pile of shit all torn apart in a tent.

But I can't wait to enjoy the shit out of it all summer, and be done tearing it apart for huge upgrades.

The only things I can see happening in the long term future are coilovers and a rear 4 link.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

I dunno if my interest is in it like it use to however.

honestly i can feel you here. it would have been cool to not have spent all that money and saved, and be that much closer to having a house or something. but you know what? i'll just be pissed later on that when i'm paying a mortgage, power bills, and taxes that i dont any money to spend on something cool.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

I think I'm gonna have around 5 grand into my MJ by the time I'm "done" with it this time. And it'll be paid off.

I've already put 7k in fuel into it daily driving it and taking it on roadtrips.

A crappy honda shoppingcart daily driver would have cost me what, 15k new? Plus interest and fuel costs? I've already been driving and wrenching the shit out of my MJ for a bit over 2 years and even everything I have planned brings the total cost including fuel to about 12k.

I'm not even gonna think about the other 235325325 project vehicles though. Yikes.

I don't know how fuel costs came into this, but you don't have to buy a brand new honda gas sipper.

Adam paid $2k for his. Easily pays itself off after a while.

because I felt like throwing them in to see how it lined up.

STOP MAKING SOUND FINANCIAL SUGGESTIONS THAT POKE HOLES IN MY LOGIC. :shiver:
