Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

Swap the XJ shit over and slap on a factory TBI setup.

You'd be out almost nothing.

as for the factory tbi setup the guy who i bought the j10 from just parted out a couple 88 chevy 1500's im gonna ask and see if he has any of the tbi stuff left.

I hate GM steering columns. That is all.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

Apply heat to bottom of axle tube, quench with wet towel, repeat until straightish, FIRI. Why bother swapping housings and junk?

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

looks like he already sold the 44 and only has the 60 left anyways

that WILL work?

i cant tell exactly where its bent. gradual i guess. i can get the shaft to the side gear, just cant get it in at all.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

Its amazing how much you can get a tube to move using the heat/quench method. Most likely the long side tube is bent upwards. Heat the bottom of the tube just outside the center section. With your truss and the gradul bend, might have to do a couple spots along the bottom of the tube. Start from the center section and work your way outwards until its better. You have to get the tube HOT, I'm talking large rosebud torch and getting the tube glowing.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

i can rig something up with my axle stand and my 16 ton bottle jack. i think it might be mostly bent at the very end near the knuckle as the truss stops at the coil buckets. i cant tell just by looking at it, but when i installed a broken shaft with no ears the shaft wants to sit maybe 3/4" low in the hole in the knuckles

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

Here goes another 'What car should I buy BS' question.

The Rabbit's not going to start, I'm 99% sure I XXXXed something up in the pump when I took it apart without a manual. Oops. Considering the block has a crack, I'm not going to throw a pump on it, or have this one rebuilt, it wouldn't be worth it. So here are my options/thoughts.

1. See if I can snag a motor/parts car from a guy at work who has 11 Rabbits. Fo realz, 11 of them, this guy is tapped. I wouldn't drop more than ~$500.

2. Buy a MK4 TDI/5spd Golf, Jetta, Passat or whatever. They get awesome MPG's, but I've heard MK4's can be an electrical nightmare.

3. Buy an early 2000's Impreza wagon, or a Forester with a 2.5/5spd. My aunt has a Forester and consistently gets ~25MPG, plus it's AWD, fairly fun to drive and pretty reliable. Any downsides/problems you guys know with these?

4. Buy a cheap, ie $1000 or less, bike and DD that for the summer, then buy a car come fall/winter when I can get more money saved up.

5. Other input...?

been doing some searching and theres the bottle jack method and the heating and cooling method.

im probably going to give it a shot. i dont need to get it too perfect, just enough so the shaft can be installed really.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

Bottle jack/forcefully bending method is not as effiecent as and can be much more dangerous then the heat/cool method. Although with heat you're gunna have to worry about seals and junk

I have floor tie downs, jack stands that lock to the floor, a frame straightener and a big rose bud torch. I can straighten anything.

i was thinking a heat and quench when under a little pressure from the jack.

is something wrong with the exhaust on it? if not id just run it. it would tow just fine as it is. not gonna make it a race truck with that motor.
