THe NAC Lots-O-BFG KO2 Thread

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

I figured it was a type of lockout or whatever it dosnt help having a 4.3 lowrange either

You talking about an AX-15 or what do you have for a trans? Pretty sure it's just that reverse isn't synchronized.

Yup.

And even if it was, your synchros would take a beating since the input + gearing and the output + reverse idler are spinning in opposite directions when they meet if you are rolling forward. Mine hates it.

I really need to pick up a spare ax15 to rebuild, my 1st and 2nd synchros aren't too happy and it would be nice to have on hand for long trips anyways.

zf6 as well :)

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

NV4500 has a synchro'd reverse gear? faaaaancy

Yup.

Like Ken said, it doesn't do much if you're rolling forward. But its nice that you never have to double clutch with that thing to get it into any gear.

With my NP435, even if I'm stopped sometimes I have to double clutch to get it into first or reverse since neither are synchro'd.

yea i understood that part. i just didnt think people bothered synchronizing them bc of it. youre never really shifting into reverse unless your stopped or in the process of stopping.. its not like youre at the speed you'd be doing 1-2, 2-3, etc.

Nice ^ (not adam's comment)

I have yet to double clutch.

I'm also probably not driving stick correctly at all.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

You can know all the stupid terms you want. I'll be busy cutting shit on my lathe.

:D

Mark's just a shitt talker. He tried to talk shit about my Bridgeport, but when it comes down to the facts, I own one and he doesn't. :D

BTW, You still owe me a 10 second car.

Still a buster.

And Scott, go with some Penzoil syncromesh. Look up whatever the capacity is and round up to the nearest quart. Fill thru the shifter. Works mint, red jeep has been like that for a couple of years now. Shifts fantastic.

With modern cars with decently strong synchros double shifting isn't really necessary for normal shifts. It's not a bad practice if you are dropping down a couple gears at once but for normal shifts (e.g. 2->3 upshifts or 4->3 downshifts) with minimal rev change it's not really required.

I was thinking about using syncromesh but Mobile1 10w30 worked fine for my last trans and was a lot cheaper. Yeah the transmission (or something else) was making terrible noises and may have been bad but it was making noises before I put the 10w30 in. After putting 10w30 in I didn't have any new problems and I figure I might just do that again.

yea you dont need to. i never do in the vw, had to at time with the subie if i was dropping from 4th to 2nd.. but that gearbox had a lot of hard miles on it.

start teaching yourself to heel toe downshift. google it.

I used to work for Honda...actually instructed quite a few people on driving their stick shifts. Especially one dumbass who took an S2000 from 5th to 2nd instead of 4th, and put some important engine components through the hood.

I'd be happy to add you to that list. :read:

i guess he held it there for a while? lol. those engines like to rev. the first week i had my subie i went from 5th to second at about 65 and locked up all four tires even though i slammed the clutch down after i realized it and the car was in gear for like .05 seconds
