I don't actually need one.

I've got my SKF catalog in front of me and I wanna look it up to find out how fast it can spin before it blows up.

The 802048 input bearing is 6000 RPM nominal, 9000 RPM limit.

The 804049 output shaft bearing is 5000 RPM nominal, 7500 RPM limit.

The 5210A t-case input bearing is rated for 7000 RPM.

9000 engine RPM in 5th gear puts the output shaft speed (and t-case input speed) at roughly 12000 RPM.

For what it's worth, the output shaft bearing in the MTX 5-speed currently mated to the SHO motor is a LM67010, which has a rated speed of 12,000 RPM.

Guess someone has already considered this. :laugh:

Are you really gonna be tached out in 5th? You have to be planning doublers and super low gears in those axles if you are considering this. 8.8 goes down to what, 6.17 I think? I know they have 5.71s, but people say they're weak...

ran the numbers with a 231/231 doubler and 4.88s just for shits and giggles and it gives ~70mph top speed in low/low. Really?! :roflmao:

12000rpm is faster than my hard drive spins.

I would laugh if the NP435 bearings could take higher RPMs.

I've had my XJ on the rev limiter in 5th during a few races at Rausch, and across Means dry lake at the Hammers. That's about 65 MPH and in those cases I could have been going faster, if the motor would've let me.

With the Dana 300 in low range, 5.13's in the axles, and 35's puts me at ~90 MPH at 9000 RPM.

Probably not gonna happen on the East Coast, but 70-80 MPH is definitely attainable in spots.

It'll probably hold together. Just tryin to consider weak links. It'd be lame to shell the planetaries through the doubler housing or something.

What's the powerband of that SHO motor? Is it pretty flat or peak out somewhere?

I asked my uncle where he could get me power, he said from ~1500 to 6500.

Horsepower peak is at 6,200 RPM. It's a pretty flat curve as the intake has variable length runners that open up depending on how much vacuum it's trying to pull.

No doubt they like to rev, and they're good at it too...Yamaha tested them at 20+ hours at redline with no issues.

I'm going to have to keep it revved pretty high, I imagine. I'm cool with that.

Just spent 10 minutes reading through a guy's build thread on TRS (The Ranger Station). He had 4 SHO Tauri and was gonna transplant one of the motors into a 2wd Ranger he picked up.

The thread dissolved into 7 pages of discussion about what wheels to use, and interior upgrades. No real tech at all and as of 2009 the project was stalled, and the guy had to sell the motor he was gonna use.

How disappointing. I was hoping for some good adapter tech outta that one.

I keep waiting to find a hidden bummer somewhere, and instead I just find a hundred threads of people regurgitating the same bullshit they read somewhere else or heard about.

well, at that speed, at least you will have plenty of coasting time left to consider your mistakes and pick a comfortable looking spot to pull off the course.

It strikes me that the project I am currently pondering is right up your alley. I am trying to find a nearly backlash free (would like ~0.1deg or less output play with input locked in place) gearbox weighing approx 1-5lbs, worm drive, with a reduction ratio of about 12.4:1. Ideas? Preferably it'll have a large bolt pattern of some sort or a flange for an output, not a splined shaft, but the input shaft can basically be whatever.
